And what of the Hurricain Devils? Middle of the road at best or a slight finals chance?
If everyone is available, then we'll be competitive against all sides apart from Toon and Gormy. Not a lot of depth this year, so if we've got a few unavailable in A & B Grade, like we do this week, then we'll be stretched pretty thin. Have probably lost 6 from last years A Grade side who finished 4th and about 4 or 5 from the B Grade side. Additions include Nick Scammell and 2 Poms, but our opening bowling Pom did his hammy 3 overs in last week.

If there is any conjecture about the difference between the standard of TDCA and CGCA, then this was put to rest last weekend. Jordan "J Rizzle" Pearce, who was a solid B Grader with about 4 A Grade games over 8 years for Imps, crossed to Motown and took 6/17 in A Grade last week. J Rizz is a great bloke, but even he'd admit that not even in his wildest dreams he would ever take 6/17 in an A Grade game. CGCA is mickey mouse.

Toon and Gormy really aren't that far ahead of the rest on paper, however they generally always post a competitive score, which is where the likes of Glen, Imps, Students, Centrals will all be hit and miss this year, ie, can beat anyone on their day but can also have mediocre performances. Are these teams may be ready to take the next step and become solid contenders?

Paying fans? Is 'buying' a player worth it, considering there is little, if any, prizemoney in the competition? He might only be there to help only get a first innings loss in a GF instead of outrighted again......

Basically, the point of playing competitive sport is to win the grand final. If a club is in a position to earn the funds to pay players, then why not do it. Makes your side better and gives you a chance to win, which is the whole point of playing.

Looking at gormy's line up and having seen a little bit of tdca cricket, gormy are a long way ahead of the pack. I'm not exactly sure whether you last sentence is a question or statement or what it means.

Mayhem, last sentence was questioning if the other clubs are going to make inroads into the gap that seems to be there between the two 'powerhouses' and the rest.

Make no mistake - the gap between Gormy and Toon and everyone else is widening. Don't know that any other team outside the top 2 really improved their side anywhere near enough to challenge Gormy/Toon. Centrals would be my bolter and should finish 3rd. Not sure who'll finish 4th, but it's largely irrelevant, as whoever it is won't beat Gormy or Toon in a semi. The one-sided nature of the TDCA is the one drawback of the league.

You wanna take a look at the finals contender in the smca over the past 10 years. College, Stratford and bundy have been 3 of the 4 semi finalists in 9 of the past 10. Maffra have also played in about the last 6or 7. Pretty damn boring comp when you can predict the final 4 before the year starts and other teams are just playing to help the top 4 get into form for finals. From memory, your league has 5 or 6 different sides play in the last 5 or 6 gfs.

Mayhem, not sure I have ever seen a bloke pump up the tyres of his mates quite as well as you do [Read: S. Nicholls & A. Burgiel]. They must be very honoured to have such a loyal mate and 'large' fan base.

As for the Hendo celebrations, any 6ft 4in off spinner should just turn, take his cap and pop back into the slip cordon at the end of the over as he, as well as everyone else, knows that a bloke of that size and stature should be running in off the fence and banging them in short of a good length! Hendo, keep a lid on it!

Pumpter, based on the results of one JP, reckon I should have slipped over to the CGCA years ago and used my 'one spells' to wreak havoc amoung their top order batsmen. Might have had at least something to hang my hat on when the curtain fell.

The same was said just two years ago, but we seem to forget that Churchill beat Toon in the semi, and went on to win the premiership. Pressure is a funny thing......

Rovers will go all the way this year......You watch!!

Powerful opening bowler and gun opening bat.
