your days must be over and gone are they dylza???

was just pointing out a young fella who looks like he will play some good football for sale, i can add to that list if you like.
Jordan dessent- hard at it, great skills and is looking fitter than ever, has great hands over head and looks very poised when he has the ball.
Joel Wallace- never beaten in one on one, manages to keep his feet at every contest. looks very comfortable as a backman and will play a lot of games for sale.
Jacko glenane- played at boisdale last year and has returned to sale, super fit and has taken his opportunity by the scruff and will play senior footy in 2010. very fast and has great skills. also isn't affraid to bury his head in under.
Jason Garret- speedster who will play a wing opposite russell mcadam. is capable of turning a game through his pace and has reasonable skills. has now nothced up a few games in the seniors and will begin to have more of an impact, is extremely fit and i'd expect a big year out of him.

I think we need to thank ourselves lucky these young guys are prepared to hang around locally and support their local clubs, its great to see and if local football is to have a future we need to keep these guys interested and involved with their clubs.
It seems as though a lot of people get on here and find it very easy to hide behind there computer screen and dish out critisism
Well said ,sale has suffered more so than a lot of other clubs around the immediate area with local guys who can really play not hanging around ,not that you can complain when the players produced at the club are playing AFL or the next level down in comps like the SANFL ,VFL etc.Doesn't help the maggies win flags however.Hard to take when they leave because they can't get work considering all the footballers who play for out of town clubs even in the same league living and working in Sale but never even considering playing for us.

Can anyone confirm Maffra's recruits? I have heard they have added more than half a dozen quality players to a list that was already the best in the league!
Ben Coleman (return from inj)
Kelvin Porter (return from inj)
Gary Jones (return from inj)
Brent Connolly - fremantle rookie list - had agreed to play at Moe but is now at Maffra
David Robbins - VFL
Killoran ?? Not sure of first name
Also not sure of names but two quality players from the Amauters in Melb

If this is the case you may as well write there name on the cup now????
Can anyone confirm?

Not to mention their under 18s won the flag last year so a few will be expected to be gunning for a regular senior spot.

Thanks Plugeroo! Now I can hear more about Sale under the appropriate banner! Just wondering, how is the maggies pre-season going? Have they recruited ok?

Have a look at the last couple of pages Cockle doodle doo it's all Sale.

Can confirm pretty much all of those.
BC, Gary and Brent all played in the intraclub on friday night.
KP isn't right yet but will become available through the season.
From what i gather Dave will be playing every second week.
And Kal Killoran will be around.

I think one of the melb players is Dean Kelly? he played for uni blues last year.

Should be a very interesting practice match between Sale and Sale City this Friday night. With both sides having recruiting very well, it is a rare chance for the 2 sides to play each other for bragging rights. With a number of players having crossed town to play for the other Sale side there will be some extra incentive for those guys to do well.

People closer to the clubs will be able to fill us in as to the exact amounts, but, I would estimate there would be approx. 5 or 6 ex Sale senior players lining up for Sale City, and I would think there may be 2 or 3 ex Sale City players lining up for Sale, so, it should be interesting to watch those guys play their old side. On top of this, there are a few ex Maffra players who will line up for Sale City, so, that should add a little bit extra.

I would expect Sale to win the game fairly comfortably as the return of some former Premiership/senior players like Kane and Brenton Martin, Phil Harris and Craig Flint, as well as the regular appearances in the senior side by Mitch Davis and Jord Dessent should see the side looking pretty strong come Round 1. With a number of other guys have moved to the club looking to make a push to play senior footy such as Tim Light, Jarred Clohesy, Big Stazza (that I have all seen play), plus a few others in Johnny Gooch, Paddy Curtain, and the Bairnsdale boys Tom Smith and Dave Waddell, there will be no spots in the senior side that aren't earnt this season.

With Chris Laverty not living in the area anymore, he will be travelling back to play on Saturdays, which raises the question as to whether he will captain the side again? If not, there are a number of guys that would be capable of taking on the job, but, I would think Rusty McAdam would have to be right up there in the queue. Having been a long time servant of the senior side, and with his best football years in front of him Rusty would be a great long term candidate for the job, capable of well and truly filling the role. Would be a great reward for consistency and loyalty over the years, which is something that any club loves to see in their players.

All in all, as far as pre season practice matches go, I would predict this would be one of the most interesting that you are likely to see, and I can't think of too many better ways to spend a mid March Friday night. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see the biggest football crowd of the season for any of the 2 clubs (bar the Sale-Maffra Sunday games) attend this game.

I just hope no one from my cricket club reads this, or they will realise pretty quickly that I have been watching footy training more than I have been focussing on improving my cricket towards the end of the year. Oh well, I guess that can happen when cricket training is on at the same ground and same night as the local footy club.

Well done to the 2 clubs for putting the show on!

whats up with warragul? rumors are theyve lost a lot of players and are getting shit numbers to training. anyone know?

Have lost a few of their younger players, but it has a lot to do with, from what I know, the absolute bullshit money that some smaller league clubs throw at younger players. But then if you were a young fella what are you supposed to do? The loyalty factor has certainly gone out the door. Feel sorry for Fusi and others who are doing the job at Warragul!

But warragul have had no problem throwing a bit of cash at players from smaller leagues over the years. Works both ways, warragul is a big club that should have enough money to keep the players around.

Dusties have had very small crowds for years, might have improved last year cos they had a good season. Why do Guls have no supporters then? warragul is a big enough town to support all the clubs.

The GFL used to be a pathway to play in the then VFL ,nowdays it's no more a significant league in the big scheme of things than is the EDFL or the NGFL in the AFL's eyes, the only difference is that it is our DIV 1 or 2 country league in the area so you would think that the majority of good young players would want to play there. We have the same problem (as Warragul) in Sale with guys good enough to play in the better comp playing in the minor comps for more money (look how many walked out on us last year to go to Darnum for e.g).From what i've seen over recent times if players don't get drafted from Power ,they then look at who is offering the best coin rather than what is the next strongest league down (not all but some).Having said all that Sale are fortunate to have the two guys back from Power this year as well as some others who have stepped up from Nth Gippy which is the way things should happen. The Maggies cleared 2 guys to Sale city this year ,good players who could be still playing in our 1's however in their late twenties so coming towards the twilight of their footy careers yet Sale City ,the biggest junior club in town ,won't encourage their best juniors to try their luck in the best league so they can keep them and groom them into lifetime Nth Gippy players.Don't try and tell me thats the best thing for football in the area.Sounds like the same mentality in the Warragul area.

You cant blame the clubs in smaller leagues for trying to be the best they can, its about winning premierships. No club would stand in the way of a young player wanting to play a higher standard but why should they push them. Why would an EDFL club in our case push a kid to play at warragul which is only a slighly higher standard?

Maybe these bigger clubs in the Gippy league need to make it more attractive for the talented younger players from smaller leagues to want to play there.

Lots of blokes from EDFL have played at warragul and many of there best players are EDFL juniors.

I am not being critical of Jaworskyj but NGFL senior sides would only have very few quality senior players that have left the "higher" league clubs to play at NGFL level. Most of them are fringe players wanting to play senior footy at a lower level or for other reasons friends, travel etc. The exception is those couple at Sale City who either haven't played the year before leaving, or shown a lack of commitment to want to play at that level they can also recieve good remuneration for playing at Sale City.

Both Sale and Maffra do very well in the local pool of talented players playing at there clubs and i don't think they would ever complain about players not playing at there club, sale this year have picked up 5 to 6 players from lower level leagues and quite obviously Maffra needs to be commended on there recruiting which has lead to a great mix of local and imported talent. This willingness to pursue the talent at a young age and make the most of every oppurtunity presented alas Brett Connoly has resulted in the most succesful club in Gippsland over the last ten years.

As for Darnum the only bloke who hasn't come back is Poison as Chris Aurisch is overseas. I don't see any harm at all in this as Darnum won a flag, the boys got good money to play, they have memories (and a premiership0 to last forever, Sale played the juniors last year and discovered some players and all of them have come back to the club.

The best thing for football in any area is that players enjoy it and keep playing year after year.

Well said.

I sincerely hope Warragul come good ,hate to see them drop down again .It's good for the comp to have Warragul in there and doing well.

On a different note ,Sale had a comfortable win over Sale City under "lights" at the Sale city home ground last night.Had a couple resting and conditions weren't ideal for footy in that it was too dark ,but had some pretty impressive performers in Jordan Dessent ,Craig Flint and Phil Harris.Sale City weren't disgraced though and should have a good year in the Nth Gippy.

my ladder prediction
maffra
traralgon
morwell
sale
moe
leongatha
drouin
wonthaggi
warragul

Think you have got Warraguls position right but I think Drouin should play finals. They made finals last year and expect to be a fair bit stronger this year. They are probably a good chance for top 3.

Don't be too surprised if the Desal Salties (formerly known as Wonthaggi) finish higher up the ladder than you "roughly" guess.

They have basically a brand new team and got beaten by Traralgon only by a few goals last week with each team having about the same amount unavailable. If you can read anything into practice match form.

They might struggle if the plant starts running behind time and they have to start working Saturday's - oh sorry, hang on - that's everyone at the desal plant bar Wonthaggi footballers. Jeez, i hope one of the "other" employees doesn't file a greivance with the union, the power may be off to court again!!

Don't know much about the other clubs in the comp as to who they have lost and picked up but everybody if who has predicted the ladder is in the know and Sale are going to finish that close to the bottom ,the standard of the league is going to be a lot higher ,because Sale look to be as strong if not stronger than their last premiership year a couple of seasons back.
