Assuming he departs - will it be viewed by Saints fans as treachery or is there now an acceptance that this is part and parcel of the modern game and Free Agency?

Perhaps i'm stuck in the past - and there's probably a lot to this from what club are offering etc but from an uninformed and outsiders perspective, it does look a tad ordinary to be leaving.

Sort of like Ablett leaving except that his name isn't as important to the club and he didn't lie to his coach about it.

Ablett didn't cover himself in glory when he left.

Goddard is a senior player, part of leadership group, identified as a possible captain. Lasting image is thumping the jumper when took that great mark and goal 2010 GF to momentarily put Saints in front.

Not a move of a traitor imv.

St. Kilda are in need of a rebuild and Essendon are years away from contending for a top 4 position.

A bit like how Carlton players would end up at St. Kilda in the 1980's after they had played their best and were looking for a Super kick.

And he hasn't won two flags and a Brownlow with the Saints.

Really looking forward to paying out on Goddard the Bomber.

just part of the game now,

dont expect saints fans to be happy about it tho and rightfully so. they should boo the hell out of him

It's footy now. It's a business, plain and simple, no matter how we look at it, and I think more and more players are looking at it as it really is, a job/career.

Personally, I think this could be a real win win for both clubif the saints can get something quality to replace him. Said in another thread, if they could get a 1st rounder and pass this on to the Suns for Caddy and snaffle K Stevens somehow, they can replace Goddard straight away with little fuss and be better off.

He'll be boo'd more than chris brown at a women's rights march by saints fans

I hope not.

It's an unfortunate situation where what BJ wants, and what the club wants are mutually exclusive.

There is no way we can offer him what he wants, nor even close to it. And to be honest it would be stupid of him to take anything less than what Essendon are offering. From what I've heard he was getting way unders in 2009-10 and has been getting probably less than what he's deserved since then. But at the moment we're in no position to pay 700k for the next 4 years to the bloke.

I hate it, because Goddard was undoubtedly the best player across all 3 GF's we played in, and that one moment where he took that mark and put us in front in 2010 is the closest most St Kilda fans have ever been to a premiership.

I will hate seeing BJ in any other colours, but I've come to accept it and can certainly understand it.

Goddard is a front running cry baby. Kudos for being the ones who prop up his retirement fund while he puts in barely sub-par performances like he has for the last 2 years.

We won a flag after we lost the best player in the comp... You'll still be no where near it even with this sooky flog in your side. Pretenders.

Why are you upset?

Is it because Goddard wiped his arse with the offer made to him by the Cats?

You realize your club were chasing him right?
