Just proves you can't taker a mindset from one sport and bring it into another. Honestly sick of people like this giving league fans a bad name.

Won't surprise me one bit if the journo has done a job on Palmer. I'm no fan of Palmer's but Marco Monteverde is known for this type of stitch up.

Surprised at the lack of comment after TWG interview.

Clive makes a number of very valid points, albeit in a rambling fashion. The FFA are a bunch of crooks.

Clive's a disease we should get rid of. I feel sorry for the GCU fan.

Having said that though, after watching Ben Buckley on TWG last night, he is a deeply unimpressive individual and the FFA should really be looking for another CEO.

There were some actual real lift GCU fans over for their game against us a couple of months ago. They were ex-Brisbane Strikers fans who didn't want to support the Roar because they were connected to the Brisbane Lions club in the state league who aren't popular with some rivals. Apparently there's a few GCU united fans like that.

I like the idea of the Queensland United and playing all over the place, sounds noble but wouldn't work in theory which is a bit like communism.

FFA should deal with Clive in the same way they dealt with Constantine. Force him out and get a new board in. There's definitely a market for an A League team in Gold Coast with the right approach. Must be very community orientated with a big focus on kids. Massive junior footballing community in Gold Coast that has largely been ignored by Fat Clive. The Tinkler approach would see crowds around the 10k mark in Gold Coast IMO.

Anyone see Bleiberg on Fox Sports FC. He was very impressive and well spoken. The guy's a top bloke. I used to think he was a bit of an arseh*le but he's a great guy.

That's all I'll say on the issue. FFA is a potential career destination for me so I'm not burning any bridges there just yet.

For the love of Jesus, Allah and Buddha I hope you turn out better than this mob.

This season hasn't actually been too bad.

Obviously, Emerton and Kewell are two of the finest footballers this nation has produced. To have an ex-Champions League winner trotting out in the sports capital of Australia every second week is enormous. The crowds are up, the football is of a decent standard, and some tidy young players are developing in our league.

But this GCU fiasco has ruined it.

Bad news is more interesting than good news. And any publicity is not good publicity. The league is going to look flimsy, amateur, and it's a little embarrassing.

Buckley is a soft yes-man. There are stories that he never visited Fury HQ in their existence. Lowy is mad and as long as he's in a top position at the FFA, there will be issues with a West Sydney team being fielded. The FFA was supposed to be a new dawn for the sport. We've got some glossy aspects. But the admin is just imbecilic, rather than fractured like the old Soccer Australia.

This game has huge potential. But it will never ever reach it unless something bold is done.

I believe the Initial set up of the A-League was good with the eight teams except for the New Zealand Knights however somewhat rectified when Wellington replaced them.
The Expansion phase has been an utter farce
North Queensland (No support Shown from Head office after only two years)
Gold Coast United (no crowd Support)
Melbourne Heart (jury still out)

Ben Buckley and Frank Lowy Took their eye and resources of the a-league with a poor FIFA World Cup Bid when the league was in its most crucial phase of growth both have been smeared with this monumental **** up! Maybe it’s time after six years for Ben to go, and new CEO of FFA to come in with a clean slate. This applies to Frank Lowy as well
What is worse the standard of Football this year has easily been the best and a 10% improvement on past years, but now all the media want to talk about is this Bun fight Clive (I ate all the pies plus the kiosk) has with FFA.

The league did so much for connecting the game with ordinary Australians (at last).. this year started well, is going to end badly.. and indeed there might be a few bumps in the off season as the politics gets sorted out.. but over time I think this will be seen as a blip. The league has a bright future long term.

I think the one observation I'd make is that by becoming more 'corporate'... more profressional.. more 'FIFA'... there has been one side effect that Ive felt ever since the World Cup bid... and that is that the National soccer team is no longer really 'my' team. ITs the FFA's team and its a marketing tool for the FFA and it reperesents the FFA's ambitions in Australia. It doesnt really represent me/Australia.. jsut the parts of Australia that support the FFA and the 'new-Football' class. Im certain most people dont feel this way, but I certainly do. I feel like soccer gained a league but lost a national team in the process of professionalising and modernising.

... and trying to keep slightly on-topic... in a way the club owners may feel a little dispossesed in the same way too.. FFA is looking a little like a little FIFA which isnt a compliment by the way.

I saw the Palmer TWG interview and it just confirms my view that private ownership is not the way to go in Australian sport. The trouble is for the FFA, its a bare neccessity right now.

He made some great points but was also cringeworthy and deflective.

Was it just me, or was his reference to him wanting to be allowed to run the team like a "premier league" club hinting at no salary cap? A dangerous road to go down.

On the FFA side of things, Buckley seems in above his head, and seriously, seriously, pension off Lowy somehow. He shot his bolt with the world cup bid. The FFA seems like its set up to find other people or governments to pay for its visions.
