This umpiring isn't mini league standard. High tackles called holding the ball, 50s ignored as GC players kick the ball away well after the free kick paid. And the commentary is worse.

Allowing the Suns to frequently throw the ball out and then call holding was a common play by those in green today.

That was a strong comeback from the position we were in. Plenty to work with. Would like a bit more height forward, helped GC greatly today.

I still can’t understand the logic with not playing 18 on the ground. Surely you would need to have elite fitness to cover a regulation ground with only 16. Expecting semi-pro players to do that is a bit unfair.

Is it a stretch to think that the game would be better quality, with a full compliment on the field?

There are some definite signs here - we have had good quarters in every game, but struggle to put a full game together. GC seemed better drilled and aware of space, probably not then having to expend so much energy to get the ball. Stoppages were an issue, I'm sure we weren't beaten that comprehensively in other games? We're not making use of our individual skills, and I think that's because when GC moved the ball quickly we were so often out of position. Ewings was well held, and then not used as an option when she presented.

Good last quarter with the wind to go with good first quarter into it. But like the first 3 games we had a poor quarter or two, especially 2nd into the wind, has been the difference between a win and a loss/draw.

Bohanna and Rowbottom were the difference. They both played like Erin used to between 2017-19 before she did her ACL.

And yeah, the umpiring is just so bewildering as a spectator. I know the rules of this game require a post-graduate degree to master, but surely just a little consistency within a game isn't too much to ask. Why does the AFLW not get the best umpires?

$$$

The umpires have to start paying more frees to open the game up.

Go look at the stats on AFL Tables and when the game was a more physical 1 on 1 game like AFLW is the average free kicks was 80-100 per game in the 1970s and 60-80 in 1980s when you had 1 and then 2 umpires.

Once they introduced 3 umpires the free kicks dropped away, despite more rules and more interpretations and free kicks have reduced to 30-40 a game.

The quality of football clearly improved as the players got tired (including scoring, 3 goals in 1st half v 9 goals in 2nd half).

16-a-side on a hot day, and a wide ground, is what helped break it open from the congested arm wrestle early.
