I love my TaylorMade Sim2 Max 7 wood. Can’t buy any 9 woods being left handed.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a substitute for my 3 wood. I can’t hit them anymore! 😢
A new 3wood

As noted above, the only real substitute in terms of gapping is another 3 wood - maybe one that is more high launch/forgiving?

Guessing you are talking about struggling to hit them off the deck? If you are just looking at them as second shots on par 5s, then you might be better off taking the(relatively minor) distance loss with something you hit well?

Driver, 3w then wedge into a par 5 probably less likely to succeed than say driver/6i/9i?

Similar would apply if you are hitting them as a second into a par 4.

If you ditch it, look at gapping across your bag to see whether there’s a more useful replacement- 5w, 4h, another wedge or even a mini-driver for maximum spend. Or a chipper.

Doesn't sound right.

You can order any club you want from a TaylorMade registered fitter. Doesn't matter if you are left-handed.

Taylormade make a mini driver product that can easily substitute as a 3 wood.

though depends how you hit it though, off the tee a mini driver is easier to hit, though off the deck likely harder to hit than a 3 wood.

I took it as struggling to hit it off the deck, a problem a mini-driver won't fix! But they sure do look cool.

Apparently a number of tour players on certain courses are using the mini driver as almost an "opposite" driver. Say if they hit a stock draw but struggle to manufacture a reliable cut - and they are on a course where they need to fade it - they then set up their mini driver with a fade bias and make their usual swing. They lose a few yards but gain a shot option.

they give a bit of a lower flight too, so they are good in windy conditions.

I used my mini driver on 12 out of 14 holes on the weekend. Its so reliable and distance very similar to my driver.
Tried hitting it off the deck a couple of times with ugly results.
I'm not at the level to be able to do that consistently.
Been smoking my 3W off the deck recently, that'll do.

i have a mate who plays off scratch that uses one religiously. Doesn't bomb it but he hits it 230m every time down the middle off the tee.

never seen him use it off the deck though.

I struggle to hit 3 wood off the deck, much prefer my 5 wood.

Sorry - BF seems to not like numerals when posting from iphone - to restate myself, 230 is long enough. The shortest PGA Tour pros only get it out to 250.

Any idea of the Takomo Golf Sets that seem to be dominating online?
Looking to get back into it, but with an affordable set.

Any ideas of what to look for beginner wise? I’m not going after the TaylorMade Qi10 Driver, although it looks damn pretty.

They get pretty good reviews from the likes of Rick Shiels et al. You could do worse.

Is Rick not a paid sponsor by them?

I'll message my mate who got them recently
Rick isn't sponsored.

Rick's ego couldn't handle not using the most expensive clubs someone can buy.

These days I reckon just about any club can do the job. It’s more about getting the right model for your skill level and having them properly fitted.

I got fitted earlier in the year at Club Champion and those boys predictably bagged the shit out of Takomo.

Watched that video. The set did look very nice. But reviewing clubs in to a simulator? Yeah that’s not very convincing.

I think it is - any time you want to test anything, you want to remove variables. Especially for someone like Shiels who has spent so much time on a sim.

When I got fitted earlier in the year I spent a lot of time semi-arguing with my fitter because I contended the massive “gains” I achieved with the recommended 6 iron(Srixon ZX5 Mk2) over my old Titleist DCI 962s were certainly influenced by the decreased loft of the newer club. Variables!

I hit some Takomo irons last week. (3 different levels available based on skillset)

They were okay - no knock at all

Anyone have any recommendations on players distance irons with forged face? I hit the 245s really well at golfbox but concerned with gapping as the 7 was carrying 180m. P770 has more traditional lofts so maybe they’re the go?

I got a set of Srixon ZX5 Mk2 irons earlier this year. Love them. But like nearly all modern clubs they all have jacked lofts. If you are looking at combining irons, reckon you need to look up their lofts.

My “PW” is 44 degrees. I then have 4 Vokeys (48, 52, 56 and 60) so I notionally am carrying 5 wedges!

I remember PW being 48 degrees, my current PW is 46.

It's one thing I'd like to see rule makers agree upon- iron rating/degree ranges.

I don’t think that it’s much of an issue - restricting driver head sizes(for pros) is far more important.

The numbers are pretty meaningless- it’s all about the gapping. Sahith Theegala carries two 8 irons. Calls one of them his “8+”. When it’s really a 7 iron that PING ground off the number 7, inserted an 8 and chucked on some lead tape to make up for what was ground away.

Because Sahith doesn’t like 7 irons. I like the level of craziness. Especially because it should be called his “8-“.

Nice. I currently game 3 vokeys 48 52 56 and about to add a 60 as well. A lot of hype about the zx range.

I'm going to get a set, they're 40-60% the price of other irons, and most things I watch the data is they're often as good or close to the irons twice the cost.

Only issue is being online only, you've got no choice but to to buy them blind or hope you know someone with them.

I'm just trying to figure out if I go and get a shaft and lie fitting and then buy them custom, or just get them off the rack.

Their shaft options are somewhat limited.
