Interestingly how do people do their own rankings? What do you rate in a course if you had your own criteria?

i feel judges are provided a criteria and go for it.

My top 4 would be RM West, R Adelaide, Lake Karrinyup and Coolum. Coolum must've gone to sh!t or asked not to be judged due to changes being made.
I look for conditioning, visual appeal (in a golfing sense as much as environmental) and variety of challenge, what does the course ask of you and does it challenge you in all conditions?

Do I need to think off the tee?
If swinging well - how many clubs do I use during a round?

I like to be challenged on the course, helps me concentrate

Do I walk off a green and think/talk about some possible pin positions that would be great

After all the criticism of Mornington (granted i've never played there, or rated it ) i'm going to give it a try over the next few weeks....must've done something right to be a new entry into the top 100.

I don't think any duds would make the top 100.

Maybe there's better courses outside the top 100 but I reckon that would happen with any "top X" list in any subjective category.

I truly think there's 200 better courses than it.

Note I played one of my best ever rounds there, but it's truly bat sh1t boring

It's horrendous. Near on unplayable in the winter. So many holes are slipping on hills, water just pools down the low side.

There are 4-5 along the water, they okay but the rest shocking.

Flinders is a better track then Mornington.

Flinders, Shepparton, corowa, Barooga x2, rich river x2, Thurgoona, tocumwal x2, ,

All easily better than Mornington imho

I don't buy golf magazines but if anyone does, has Mornington been advertising a lot? There's been a perceived correlation between this in the past.

We had a feature in September last year (some notes in the article I agree with, others not) and we've moved up 4 places since.

I don't mind Mornington but I know others who have had the same opinion as in here. The sloping fairways don't bother me too much.

Play a good shot, end up in the collection point where all 500 previous good shots end up. No imagination and boring IMO
