Being out of the loop with the whole family thing for the last few months I hadn't taken much notice of sporting news, even for the olympics.
I got such a nice surprise watching the news tonight and seeing a lady called Collette Rickard on the news at the 'parents event' in a pub in beijing watching the opening ceremony with the other parents of athletes that had travelled over.
We met Collette at Coorparoo in about 2002/2003 when she was helping with the cheermob sausage sizzle and ended up seeing her now and then at Lions stuff over the years.
Her son Brenton has made the Aussie swim team! I'm pretty sure from what she said back then that her whole family were in the Lions cheersquad for a year or two, Brenton included, before he moved south to train more for his swimming.
It was exciting to see her on tv, a bright spot "lions moment" on an otherwise forgettable lions day.
