Schwarz gets the chop today. Bit of a surprise in relation to the timing.

He certainly frustrated all supporters over the journey, I suppose it was a matter of time.

It looks like we will be using many late picks deep into this draft then as a result, possibly re-drafting him as he can continue to train with the club.

Good luck Wool

this is a big mistake by stkilda. schwarze is severly underrated and was injured a bit last season. as sh-t as he used to be he really has turned around ad is a decent player. we better redraft him

Here's hoping Geelong use their last draft pick to pick him up. He'd be a steal. I try to not watch too many Saints games ;) but it seems everytime I see him play he is a damaging player.

Can't say if i've only seen his good side perhaps but i rate him as a good second string player and certainly think he'd be worth keeping on the list. Every club needs depth, its a common belief that the Saints would go further with more depth and so its a strange one in my opinion.

I agree SirRooke, he is a great depth player. A versatile GOP who can play anywhere and capable of surprising with his skill. He has a lovely kick on him, his general field kick is a low trajectory pass which looks elegant and is quite accurate. His long kick can be wayward, but on the run he can kick a beauty 60+ metres with real accuracy.

My concern for our club is that we need cheap GOP's as list fillers (depth players who cost little) because of the quality of our main list.

If we are not careful - we will find that as the new recruits from this year mature, they will demand higher wages. Look at our list, we only have a few oldies left, once they're gone the new guys are going to soak up the cap space. We still need to turn over a minimum of three players each year so there will always be some coming and going but if any of the new recruits are good (let's hope they are) we may not be able to afford them as they improve. We may be painting ourselves in a corner with no cap space to negotiate with to retain all our better players.

Also, one of the philosophical approaches that GT took was to get a great bunch of kids together and keep them together while they matured into great footballers. The club stuck by the group, keeping them together so that the players felt secure and part of something special.

Now there is the largest player turnover since 2000, some of the players may not feel that the club is loyal to the players any more, so what's to stop them from walking away for the next big cash offer?

I'm not panicking yet, but it is food for thought.

I've got no complaints with the decision and in fact if we're going to take the next step we need to become more ruthless. Troy was a great clubman and a handy backup player but I really don't think he was good enough to justify a spot in our best 22.

If this draft is as good as everybody thinks then lets use our later picks on kids that will hopefully develop into senior players good enough to make the grade. I realise there's still a possibility of the club re-drafting him but I hope we push ahead and create a list with genuine competition for places and not popular figures who at times could be a handy backup.

Thanks for all of your service Troy. :thumbsu:

Personally I have no issues with the delisting. And, Stkildonan, most of the core that are GT's boys are still there, I doubt that this will result in players leaving for more money, they will develop into part of the culture and stay on. Out with the deadwood, our second string have not got us there, so lets throw them around a bit.

I liked TS, thought he could develop into something. Perhaps he is another who lost a chance through injury, but in reality he was not good enough to stay in the team permantly, especially if injury rates reduce. I hope he finds another home as he seems a decent bloke. Maybe Geelong could put him in their forwardline, he would walk straight into that one.

He was showing signs of improvement and while he will be 25 at the start of next season, it looked like he was taking the next step past becoming a handy backup. A little surprising given the major cull we've completed, but looks like Lyon really wants to shake things up and create a new direction. Ruthless is the right word, but good luck to Wool in the future.

The age says wool was given the shove in search of a ruckman, given cain's departure.

Are we going to delist everyone? This shouldn't have happened, and believe me, someone else is going to draft him no matter where he is training.

I think you're overreacting there.

We have delisted a lot of players but you have to remember that we've already brought in two players. That still only gives us 5 picks in the National Draft (or 4 + 1 Preseason Draft pick) in what is expected to be the best draft since 2001.

If Troy gets redrafted I'll be very happy him. He served our club well. I still don't think he's good enough to command a regular spot in our senior team.

A few people have said that and it's a shame that injuries prevented him from making an impact in the second half of the season but I thought he had had enough time.

Maybe I'm being a little harsh. I liked what I saw against Port Adelaide earlier in the season but he has been on the list for 8 years. He really needed to have done more to justify a spot on our list by this stage.

His time was up I'm afraid.

was drated at end of '98 season at No. 53 so 2007 will be his 9th year....you do the math!!
"drafted"

Recruited from Dingley/Prahan U18 in 1998,
Schwarze made his debut for the Saints in 2000 and has played 71 games for the Club.

I really hope he gets re drafted by us as well as Matty Ferg. I would hate them to end up at that scumbag club Richmond
