Just looking for some advice. 4th year at SC. 1st year at DT. Have spent the best part of 5 weeks on my SC side and it's near completion barring injury. So I decided to make a DT. Knowing nothing about the game how should I go about selecting a side? I am thinking maybe the best way is to just put in my SC side and sink, but learn the facets of the game the hard way. Just don't think I have enough time between now and Round 1 to learn this caper.

ALSO
Just went trawling through a few pages of the team thread and noticed Ablett is not selected in every team like in SC. Is Ablett the permacaptain in DT like SC, or is Dane Swan the DT version of Ablett. Guess that's a good start to base a team on. Obviously the captain is important. So who is the DT star???

Any thoughts on both questions appreciated in advance

Like you I spend most of my time on SC and very little on DT. Last year I almost forgot about DT and just went with my SC team at the last minute. It didn't go very well so it's probably not the best way to go if you're serious. As for learning the facets of the game, it's pretty much the same as SC apart from the way the players are scored.

Think i might just roll with it. Putting in my SC side seems easier. Might not go well, but i'll teach myself during the year for a real crack next year. Plus I think I can probably win the league i've just joined with my mates anyways, based on SC knowledge. Thanks for the reply :)

If anyone has an answer to my second question, which is a couple of posts above I would be very grateful:thumbsu:

Ablett is not as automatic a selection in DT as he is in SC. In fact, no-one is an automatic selection in DT. Ablett and Swan are the standout two performers over the past year, with Swan edging Ablett due to his greater durability.

However that does not make Swan an immediate lock in DT because he is not so far above the other elite DTers (Montagna, Bartel, Gibbs), like Ablett is over all other elite SCers, meaning you can definitely make an argument for not selecting Swan or Ablett and choosing to save the money and go for cheaper options.

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for input please:

I have the potential to free up $51K by downgrading Medhurst to
Ballantyne (if he is fit).

This would allow me to do one of the following:
- Upgrade Sandiland to D.Cox
- Upgrade Gia to ROK or Pavlich
- Upgrade S.Fisher to S.Gilbert
- Upgrade Gia to Pavlich and J.Brown to ROK.
- Upgrade Fisher to Gilbert, Gia to Pavlich.
- Change Medhurst to Ziebell (I have Hall already).
- Stick with Medhurst and make none of these moves.

Appreciate any feedback as I'm a bit unsure which way to go.

This would allow me to do one of the following:
- Upgrade Sandiland to D.Cox - For me, Sandilands is a better pick than Cox this year. No
- Upgrade Gia to ROK or Pavlich - Gia has the potential to average around about the same as either of these two, but is getting older. Maybe.
- Upgrade S.Fisher to S.Gilbert - I'd upgrade Fisher, but probably not to Gilbert.
- Upgrade Gia to Pavlich and J.Brown to ROK - See (2), and it really hasn't been determined how Brown will go with Fev there. Maybe.
- Upgrade Fisher to Gilbert, Gia to Pavlich - See (3) and (2)
- Stick with Medhurst and make none of these moves - Possibly the best option, saves money for early trades. Although perhaps you could go Medhurst to Ziebell/Hall/Westhoff, unless you really like the look of Medhurst.

Appreciate any feedback as I'm a bit unsure which way to go.

(Opinions in red)
This is merely my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt:

not sure if this has been asked, and not too keen on going through the entire thread but what is everyones opinion on left over cash? Use all of it and rely on your cash cows or save some in case of early injuries? and if so, how much?

I say just pick a team you're happy with. If you haven't got much cash left then so be it. Chances are you're gonna need to make 2 trades to make an upgrade anyway. Risky if you get a LTI early on but don't screw up your team just to free up a bit of cash.

If you've got leftover cash though, don't use it for the sake of it (i.e.: Barlow to Scully).

I hate this, i need a good team name

I can never think of one, even when i try my hardest every year its something different, so can someone help me with a team name?? and something to do with freo but if not thats still fine
