Biggest crowd I have seen at Rochy but I've only been in the area 12 yrs .

Bar on netball side of oval ran dry a couple of times due to high demand, so RFC would been happy with $$$ return

Buckley was everywhere in the first 1/4 but injured from then on.

There was no Weeks, and word is 5 weeks till return.

How to lose a game.

Rochester: Five goals up at half time, early in the third quarter one goal apiece. Remove Watson and Cutriss from the ground at the same time. Result? Centre clearances dry up, no defensive midfielders to mop up; Echuca kick the next three goals.

Echuca: Play a fifteen year old kid for near enough to three quarters, fail to provide a ‘run with’ player for Watson. If there is a policy to rotate kids then that is fine but why keep a kid on the ground for so long when clearly ineffectual? If Echuca don’t have a player who can run with quality midfielders from the top sides then they can forget about finals.

Mm not too sure about this! Yes Echuca did flog rochy out of the middle but wasnt because Watson wasnt in there, and if your talking about cuttriss on the wing then yeah not too sure whether he was having a great influence on the centre breaks anyhow
Echuca had a lot of poor players running around out there, there good players are awesome and there weak players really get exposed!

it was great to see so many people attend the game at Rochy and the club has shown it can do a showpiece game as well as anyone. Massive time invested by alot of people and should be congratulated for a great day. Massive dollars and heard gate was around $15K alone. Very funny talking to Echuca people as bitter as anything still about not having this as a home game.

On to football. I see Rochester being around the 4th or 5th position on the ladder based on yesterday. They struggled to shake a well drilled team in Echuca and probably shows they arent as classy as they might think on paper. Didnt have Weeks ( 3-4 weeks ankle) or Anderson ( 12 weeks ankle ligaments) and will improve but a few recruits dont look up to GV for mine and will be found out sooner than later.

Echuca have good players around the ball but struggle with certain positions on the ground. Need a FF or key position forward as got as much out of the small forwards as they could expect. Noticed kick outs happen very quickly and they use long kick and run to get forward. Also noticed on coaches board for Echuca mentioned to kick at all costs around the midfield and drive forward which is a good tactic if the kicking skills mean the ball doesnt go straight to a defender.

Both teams will get better as season progresses but Rochy still need a ruckman as McLinden will play Bendigo Gold and in best players yesterday.

Any views from the shepp v united game? Good Friday football is a winner for local clubs with great crowds attending. Benalla will be a danger side for all teams, with a young list who can run the ball well. A lack of physical strength will tell, but they are a side that will keep opposition sides accountable and give lots of cheek over the course of the season. don't know that they will play finals, but they will claim some good scalps from what I have seen.
Interesting to read the views of one post on the quality of some of Rochy's recruits. Think Ky might be in the same boat. Runnels lacks size and could very well struggle to hold his place in the side when all players are available.
A good crowd watched the Bendigo Gold v Ky game on Friday. Lots of outs for Ky but their kids had a crack. Bendigo won by 11 goals but gee they were ordinary given the side Ky put out on the park. No team sheets but no 8, 9 and 23 were good for Bendigo whilst for Ky, Ogden would have been close to BOG, Morgan and Hilton were very good.
Given the big number of players who are injured for Ky I can't see them beating Tat next Sat.

how did you reckon reeves and seddon went.
i thought bendigo did alright had a good press and clean skills for a young side.

who ever is doing the write up of the game for the Riv Herald needs to watch more and stop guessing on what went on in the game. Were they even there?
The article mentions Echuca's ruckmen in Florance and Edgar playing well but McLinden for Rochester who was the opposing ruckman and best on ground didnt get a mention.
Also so close to a memorable win but still lost? Obviously happy with a close game and a loss as not many coaches would say happy to get rolled today by only 2 goals.

Have a read as made me laugh initially but not surprisingly trying to talk up the Echuca team. If the coach loses the next 10 games by 2 goals to every side, do you think the by line will be almost a memorable victory?

Bendigo had good structures and worked hard but given the team Ky had in, a Rochy, Tat or United would have beaten them by more. As far as I could see thompson didn't play. I fear that Bendigo are in for a long long season. Hard to see them surviving as a stand alone club moving forward.
Reeves did little, not sure if he is a 100% fit and Seddon was poor. I am not one of his fans. Plays for himself, he has no defensive side and has shown in previous seasons that when the heat is on he goes missing.
Apparently he shopped himself and his 2 mates to Rochy early in the piece but they weren't interested. IMO Ky would be better off without them.

You are kidding yourself jaggo, some of the best players in the comp don't have great defensive games, blokes like Watson and Archard have never been plauded for their defensive skills because they are ball winners and that's what they are so good at. Seddon is a gun and he actually laid quite a few big tackles against bendigo. You clearly have it in for any of ky's recruits because they will be replacing young blokes who were gifted easy games for ky over the past 2 years because of there lack of depth. This year they will have to earn their spot which is what you want.
I don't see any other supporters getting on here and spraying there club for recruiting and giving their side a chance of success.

Interesting you are a fan of his. Putting him in the same sentence as Watson and Archard is stretching his credentials a tad. Still stand by my views. Watson and Archard are great players because they have performed in big games and make their team mates better players into the bargain. The only player Seddon tries to better is himself, selfish and not team orientated. Rochy got it right by passing on him

I never said he was as good as those two, they are both on a level of their own. They are also both 5-6 years older. Seddon is still young and will only get better, I'm more than happy to back him in. Pretty sure he was in the best in the Gv game 2 years ago, that's a fairly big game isn't it?

Tat vs ky should be a cracker. Tat are a bit unknown but with the nucleus of their premiership team still there and some quality recruits from the vfl I'm fully expecting them to be right up there. Think they will narrowly get over ky this weekend who will be up and about for Afros 200th senior game. Sheldon and child's are big outs which could be the difference.

My top 6

United
Rochy
Tat
Mooroopna
Ky
Swans

Morrison- Watson
Goal kicking - eagle

How stiff is ash Watson, probably should have had 2 or 3 morrison medals already! Absolute gun!

Exactly, your not a pr0n star because u have a little dick not because someone didnt give u votes when u had 45 touches, you must be an umpire aswell! Bloody ******s!

How about Paul Kirby! Talk about stiff! He came second that year to durbridge in the morrison when tat beat swans by90 points n durbridge polled 3votes n Kirby 2.

Good to see Rian McGough's clearance to Tat has finally been approved. (I agree Snowman12, Kirby was stiff that year not to win it.)
Good...we need all our players available. Hopefully I won't be needed to play as I heard the Tat ressies are a bit light on this year...will prefer to continue and help with the odd bit of timekeeping than playing again. But I suppose I better throw the gear in the boot just in case...

Thirds lost by 27. Ressies did a bit better than what most spectators thought and went down by about 13 goals. Going to be a long year for the Tat Twos. Yippee, didn't need me to play so I did the seniors timekeeping.....
Seniors had a good win, only went a bit quiet in the second half of the second quarter. A lot of contributors which saw us timekeepers have our 6 best Tat players to pick the votes for in the weekender, being only two the same as was listed on the GVFL website.(we had 5 of the 6 listed Ky Players).
The two goal square match ups for at least the second half were Wall v Morgan (was a ripper - Wall kicked 5 after half time and I see on the GVFL website he got 3rd best and Morgan got 2nd best (was probably close to bog in the first half). The other end was Waite on Newman. I think Newman only kicked 1 after half time and finished with 4. He usually kicks 6-10 against Tat!. With the move of Waite onto Newman saw Billy Lovel go forward and kick 5 second half goals also. Tat had close to a full side with maybe only 1 or 2 out of their starting 21, but someone from Ky said they had 3 or 4 out. So if this is true then I expect Tat to finish 1-3 and Ky to finish 4-6.

James Wall will be Tats most influential player! hard to match up on.

Heard an interesting stat from the Ky vs Tat game, out of something like 18 1v1 contest's between Wall and Morgan after half time Wall only won 4 with Morgan winning 14. For a bloke to dominate an ex vfl player like that just shows his quality, probably the best defender in the league since he has been back at Kyabram.
