Ex-Adelaide All-Australian Ben Rutten has put a clearance through to join Mansfield. Seeing that he is a Richmond coach, I wonder if he'll play a few games when he can or it it's a once-off. Richmond plays Friday night so obviously he is free on Saturday.

Looking forward to the new points system getting rid of or reducing this crap. Seems that if the points system comes in then it's going to hopefully put a stop to footy mercenaries collecting their cash and going home. Not sure I'm a fan of the points system and proposed salary cap as I don't think its a huge problem but it will definitely stop these fly by nighters coming in. I don't mind them coming if they commit to a full season, that's a different story.

Jeepers OTB has been to the Common sense doctor...good to see.

OTB - I kind of understand where your coming from "but" ex AFL players bring excitement to clubs and the league. With regards to 1 off games I'm not sure if I'm a fan "but" it does generate a bit of money to the home club on the day if promoted well.
Also we all assume the player is doing it for $$ which in most cases is correct, but I'm sure a few do it to help mates out. Does he have any links there??

The footy mercenaries rely on incompetent people offering and agreeing to pay them over their worth. I agree with you re salary cap and points , yet to see or be provided any evidence what so ever that it will be effective in equalising or reducing player payments.

Possibly Craig Kelly and some VIP access to the chalet at the snowfields on Mnt Buller.

No skiing this week unless the runs have been groomed at Mt Ridley near corop.

In all seriousness if an ex AFL Player offered his services for 4-6 games per year I would suggest all clubs would take them on. Probably not a once off but 4-6 games for the year and finals if required no probs.

Clubs were playing VFL players the required games and using them in finals in previous years (Wall / Tat last few years springs to mind) what's the difference?

Bit bullish on Rochy today who were missing Flaherty, Bowen and Brennan, but a 70-point win over Mansfield was an excellent result. Brennan must be back next week. What about the other two?

Echuca beat United by three goals which is a great result for those bastards up north. :D

Ventured across to the game against Mansfield. Rochy's spread and carry was most impressive and strategically they are miles ahead of last year. The motto appears to be 'run and carry forward wih intent' rather than the possession game of last few years. Hawthorn could do it, Rochy couldn't!! Weekes would be salivating at the prospect of being on the pointy end of the current game plan.

Was surprised to see opposing ruckmen Jones and Foott named best for Mansfield and Rochy respectively. It seems odd. Undersized Foott battled manfully to partially negate Jones, but Anderson was BOG for my money. Watson, Marrone, Williams and Greene were very good. Sanders started well but faded. Was disappointed with Mansfield to be honest as I thought they would be better. Burbury and Boshevski were good but reactive rather than proactive. Jones should have done better given the size advantage he had in the ruck.

Anyway, still upside with Flaherty and Bowen back next game, and Brennan the game after.

A former United player is going to face the music tomorrow night after extraditing himself from WA to face 21 month old charges. The rule regarding this needs to change. As it stands any player that fails to front the tribunal without good reason is suspended only from playing until such time as they present. There is no penalty at all for simply thumbing your nose at the system. It is certainly a big ask for those who would have had to attend originally to now stump up and recall what happened almost two years ago. I know this happens in the judicial system but at least there signed statements are taken soon after the occurrence.

Perkovic wants to get involved or play footy again? Must want something as wouldn't front otherwise.
Give him the same suspension as he has given the tribunal. 45 weeks of footy?

By definition the GVFL website promotes 'Live scoring' as a score by score update of each GVFL match... facilitated by league funded ipads no less. Emphasis being on `Live`!!!

As i sit on the Gold Coast with my slab of Mountain Goat steam ale i realise the folk at United have clearly not embraced technology. At 2.22 pm Scores United = 0 Richester =0

Must be heavy going at Deakin? Oh well another drink I guess ...

It's up to the home team to update the scores isn't it? I heard that United went to knuckle to get back into the game, but Rochy did enough for a five goal win.

Benalla had a very nice win over Mooroopna. Still think they'll be there at the end. Seymour beat Kyabram by two points.

The Knuckle i would say there where a few little wrestles no knuckle Rochester a little to polished for United

Yeah mate it's the home team's resposibility to provide the 'live' score updates. I think they were on a significant delay from Deakin ... they opted for the old school 'quarter by quarter' model ...perhaps a delay bouncing scores off the satellite and through the 'cloud' ..?

United going the knuckle ... sounds predictable.

Have any other clubs recruited blokes before June 30?

What are thoughts on the season at this stage? Still looks wide open.

Just had a quick look at the clearances and no real big names coming into the GV that I can see.

- Rochy are obviously having a good season, but have a poor finals record the past five or so seasons.
- Kyabram is quality, but has lost (Mansfield and Seymour, both at home) two of its past four.
- Euroa seem like a pretty young team and have been inconsistent; beating Benalla, Seymour and Mooroopna, but losing to Echuca and drawing with United.
- Benalla still have most of the guys from last year but there have been rumours about discontent and have already dropped four games. Flogged Mooroopna yesterday so maybe they're turning it around finally.
- Swans have lost good players from last year and seem a touch off the pace.
- Mooropna have been okay, but haven't taken a major scalp yet if you don't count the Swans as a major scalp.
- Seymour and Mansfield have shown glimpses but seem to be off the pace of the top teams

Only two wins from second to eighth.

Injuries/suspension obviously playing a big part, but at the moment I'd say the premier will come from Rochy, Ky or Benalla with Euroa a sneaky chance.

Rochy have been very ordinary in finals series the last few years. Saying that, can't remember when they have been 10-0 in a season before. I hope they can continue their current form at the pointy end of the season. Still couple to come back in (Sanders, Brennan) which can only help their chances. Agree that Ky and Benalla are the other 2 that seem to be thereabouts. Euroa's fortunes may depend on the availability of their VFL players.

Live scores are a great idea but it's another job that someone has to be found to undertake. No iPads given out in our comp so no incentive to give a tech mad kid a job. Also, don't underestimate the ability of Sporting Pulse to f*ck things up.

Live scoring along with the provision of ipads to GVFL clubs was one of the initiatives for season 2015 underwritten by the 'hub', so presumably clubs had agreed to facilitate 'live scoring'.

Perhaps it wasn't a 'core' promise from the 'hub' or perhaps it was a Sporting Pulse issue? Shep United have not been good at uddating scores prior to the mandate this year and remain predictable in their unpredictability.

Difficult to compare the situation to the KDFL Woody, as you say your clubs are not provided with ipads and there isn't the expectation of live scoring.

Six weeks is a long time in GVFL footy ... Particularly if you are Sammy Brennan and due to the idiosyncratic nature of the draw, it becomes 9 weeks since you actually played ...

After such a sustained spell he should be well set for a finals campaign.

Add another week for the bye next week after playing today. Good to have him back.

Ugly game of footy with Rochy finding a way to get over the line against Mooroopna. Stacking backline by Mooroopna was good tactically, and made it a "2005 Sydney-esque" style game with low scoring and a heap of stoppages. Rochy also couldn't buy a goal kicking 8.17.
