Threw a question out a few weeks ago regarding top 5 Players in the league.... going to change it up a bit this time, would love to hear your thoughts.

17-23 year old young guns in our league? Who are the up coming stars of our competition.?! I'm sure each club has those young stars who they would love to keep at the club for a long time.

I will throw some obvious names up.

Dean Smith and Luke Smith - Both guns at their respective clubs and were rewarded with inter-league selection.

Harrison Wheeler and Kyle Mueller fit in that category, JD Hayes only 22, Sam Martyn only 23,

Jd Hayes only 22?!! Plays much older then that. Credit to him!

That young Harrison Wheeler does go in pretty tough doesn't he. Seen him live early on in the year and he had it on a string feeding some of the Seymour outside runners. Him and #8 had it all day giving it to one another, was a good display of clean footy. Will agree there Ultra, Kid can play.

How old is Lachie Smith?? Living in Echuca I have been able to watch him a fair few times, boy he can play. Super reliable.

I'm sure Lachy Smith is still only 23.

Not surprising from Benalla always been poorly behaved, starts with the u18 on and off the field, believe it was a u18 player that racially abused Grenville.
We spoke about Benalla earlier in the year and were challenged by Roota (? Sorry if wasn't you) about victimising them. We gave plenty of evidence of their poor culture but hoped they had moved on with with the high player turnover and committee changes. All clubs have degrees of behaviour they don't like. But if it is widespread culture takes a long time to change.

JD Hayes is a rip snorta. Some good talent from Ky includes Zac Norris who has just represented Vic Country, Tom Holman, Kyle Mueller, Brad Whitford, and Drew Barrett (Paulo has played 3 games this year but maybe too old!)

Not sure it would have been roota. Maybe 'the freak', as he is involved with Benalla.

Didn't ogden recently play his 150th? Surely not 23
Thanks, was guessing on this as only second year out of Uni I thought. Tom Holman is the surprise youngster as he is 20 but played played in both last year's and the 2013 senior premiership teams.

Is he son of Peter Holman bootz? If so, can Rochy get a reciprocal arrangement ... like golf ... given his dad and uncle Russell played for Rochy?

Like all clubs there are some really good people at the Saints who put in a lot of work to keep the club going
Unfortunately the club needs strong leadership to weed out the morons who show no respect to their own club and opposition clubs
It has been a problem at the Saints for a long time and it desperately needs to change.
Even the local community doesn't really support the Saints as the perception of the players conduct is pretty poor

Good post I'm sure Benalla has some good people but unfortunately a few idiots can give you a bad name, most teams don't enjoy playing Benalla particularly at home, they seem to have a we hate all clubs attitude and players and supporters don't mind letting you know.

Huge round 13 coming up in the GV. Whats your thoughts fellas?

Bears V Ky - First vs Second on the ladder.... Should be a cracker game, Ky for me...

Mansfield V Seymour - Interesting game, Mansfield in some form of late and always tough to beat at home. In saying that Seymour off a solid win against Rochy, with both sides missing key personnel. Seymour youngsters seem to step up giving me confidence they will get the job done over in Mansfield this week.

Rochy V United - Injuries to united key players?? Rochy to bounce back after last weeks loss. Ash Watson to find some form after a large stint on sidelines. Oh and do not forget the 4-5 A/grade ins that will come back into the side. Rochy to win.

Mooroopna V Tat - Interesting...... Mooroopna to pounce after being close the last couple of weeks! Go cats!

Swans V Euroa - Euroa.... Simply to strong.

Echuca V Benalla - Another cracker here, Echuca fresh off a win against the magpies last week. However i am going to stick with saints here to get the job done away from home.

Bears V Ky - I think if Shepparton are going to win this game against Ky they have to play the full 4 quarters and Shepp have a habit of dropping off intensity slighty during the game. I think it will be Ky to win but only couple of goal in it.
Mansfield V Seymour - I think Seymour will be too good for them. Tat outplayed Mansfield for 3 and a bit quarters.

Rochy V United - Rochy at home are pretty good. Stroobant and Mamone are key inclusions and going to be too goald

Mooroopna V Tat - Tatura to break the loosing streak but not by much thou.

Swans V Euroa - Euroa too good here.

Echuca V Benalla - Echuca at home are really good while Benalla away from home are mediorce. Echuca to win.

Interesting reading on the EDFL thread. A premier division club has been done (not officially) for breeching the salary cap. The EDFL's advising the club of it's knowledge of the situation has led to significant across the board pay cuts for players, leading to player walk outs and a club in disarray. Proves 'big brother' is obviously watching. The EDFL probably have the biggest salary cap for any metro/country league. $250,000.

Interesting because the Integrity Officers haven't even been trained in the Country yet.

Integrity officers are employed by AFL Victoria I assume? I think the EDFL issue is a case of the league acting .. my understanding is clubs and leagues have year's grace in relation to salary caps and long term contracts. In this case the breech was excessive so the EDFL advised the club they were waaaay over, and the club needed to address their situation.

On the topic of the EDFL, what is everyone's thoughts on the overall senior standard/ quality of players of the EDFL compared to the GVFL? I know we played them in the interleauge match the other year but don't think that can give a true reading of the league comparisons with a lot of the better players no longer want to play! Where would the likes of a Kyabram sit in that league? Turbo? You still scouting this thread? Give us your thoughts..

The EDFL would be a fair way in front atm...unfortunately the GV has fallen away significantly.
