Euroa displayed a devastating brand of team first high pressure football on saturday. This style of play really stacks up in the heat of finals. Stars Jack Hellier, Ben Giobbi, Adam Giobbi and Tristian Davies seemed to find another gear. Even if they cant prevail this weekend, with the brand of footy they play I cant see them losing this years premiership.

Can they stop Gus Byrne? He tore the match apart against Mansfield!

Echuca finishes top of the ladder and wins the qualifying final in emphatic style than gets rewarded by having to drive 2.5 hours to play in Mansfield for the second semi. Their opponent is just down the road from Mansfield. Makes zero sense to me, I understand that Mansfield is in the other final but we never change the pre-lim and granny from Deakin when United and Bears are in it. Other leagues allow teams to play home finals if that’s the way it falls, we are so out of touch as a league it’s not funny.
Maybe they want Echuca to go to the Bendigo League? Bit of a tone deaf decision to give them the bird given the parlous state of the league.

There has been talk on the Bendigo forum of Castlemaine potentially dropping back to the MCDFNL as the best local talent wants to stay put in the local league.

It has also been raised that the BFNL should make a play to get Echuca, Rochester and maybe even Moama into the league, especially if Castlemaine leave.

Why would Rochy want to go that way

What a s**t show the GV has become just gets worse .

On SM-G973F using BigFooty.com mobile app
Leagues around the area have made changes that have worked for the GVL to put processes in place with some confidence to avoid many issues that keep popping up .
For what ever reason looking into something another league has done that works is seen as weakness by the GVL and it’s absolutely backward thinking .
Neighbour leagues MFL and PDFNL have moved their finals ( including GF) around of late with seemingly great success . They also lock them in well in advance regardless of who is playing .
IMO all clubs should have a go at hosting the grand final and promoting playing in the GVL to the local public .
The one change the GVL has made of late was a massive fail , that being changing when GF is played .

Does anyone actually think playing the GV grand final the day after the AFL is a good idea? What is the theory behind it? Don’t know anyone who thinks it is a good idea but happy to hear from you folk..

Not sure who you talk to but has been for years and I love it and know plenty who love it. Should stay that way to.

It was always the day after the AFL GF but when the AFL pushed the GF back a week by adding a bye round pre finals the GV decided to do the same adding some ridiculous byes throughout the season and hence pushing the GV season back a week. It changed the dynamic substantially.

The biggest furphy about this is that people travel from all over Victoria to watch the game. The standard of the GV has diminished along with the size of the crowds. There are no Saad Saad's to watch these days.

The 2016,2017,2018,2019 GV grand Finals were played on the Sunday of the AFL Preliminary Finals Weekend weren’t they ?

Not sure what was meant to happen the last couple of years

Yes Gill announced it in 2015 for the 2016 finals series. Prior to the introduction the GVFL was renowned as the last GF in country footy and as Mortlock suggested blokes would come from Melbourne. Footy trips would include that particular day on their schedule. The league was quality prior to points and salary cap.

I think you are missing the point as the league is now not as good. Ordinary in fact. Why would Melbourne people come on the last weekend of the School holiday period to a GV GF? By moving it back a week I'm guessing most footy trips have been run and won so we don't get that crew either.

It would be interesting to see official attendances for GF's over the last 20 years.

The GF attendance’s would be like the Elmore Field Days. Each yr record crowds.

And I agree. I don’t know why they think it’s great to have the last GF in Vic.

Out of interest

Would a Echuca V Euroa GF pull a bigger crowd than a Echuca v Mansfield GF.
