Echuca and bears will hold. Rochester Mansfield and swans will all be better again. Euroa, Seymour & Mooroopna the ones who seem to have lost more players and talent than they have gained. Bottom three similar IMO.

He wouldn't be the only one. Recruiting is a nightmare. Clubs cheating salary caps, players promised they could play where they want, and Young blokes holding out re-signing until they see if they like the new coach—18/19 years olds wanting better offers, others that lie straight to your face. Its a farce!
but we persist - it is a choice - my advice - get out while you can - toxic!!

We're into November and not one big signing in the gv yet. This was unheard of 10 years ago
Reason being many bypass the Gv (and premier standard leagues)is lots of District ( and lower division)clubs throw absurd sums of money at em.Unfortunately heaps of fellas are more interested in playing a lower level as it requires less commitment and easy money (plus the fact they stand out ).
I know of spud players getting $600 plus in $hit comps and its only getting worse.God bless the volunteers.

A well known big paying clubs President looked me in the eye the other day and said" We don't worry about the cap, we just pay cash..it's our word against theirs and they can't prove it"!

Part of the answer to the problem is forced closure of some of the shit district clubs. The reality is there is no community. There is a memory of yesteryear. Put the squeeze on some of those clubs with no population or juniors. Kill off the shit little clubs for a start.

Which league Ringo? Are we talking Goulburn Valley or Geelong?

All the more reason to get rid of salary caps and tighten up points. Points is where you stop the mercenaries.

Natural attrition should be able to occur as it always has. Clubs will either thrive or die.

I don’t agree with you calling any club a shit club

A well known metro club in the west of Melbourne now playing in the EDFL . Some clubs are playing with a cap .. others aren’t !

Everything is against community/district clubs including things like the points system and pathway systems .
Once upon a time junior players would develop in their local club whether that be community league or premier league . Once a talented player out of a community comp had established themselves in senrior footy they’d have crack at major league .
Likewise a senior player at a premier comp once they stopped getting regularly senior footy would look to try their hand at coaching within a community comp .
That dynamic has completely changed whereby players are being heavily encouraged at a young age to enter premier/ major league junior structures which often have multiple junior sides . These kids in these junior sides have often been the big fish in their community clubs junior sides and enter these comps which have become more rep type sides .
The kids all establish the dream of making that premier teams senior side .
Reality kicks in and players realise 3 doesn’t go into one so we see massive flall out of player numbers .
To counteract this community leagues fight with premier league players more so than ever for the reduced pool of players still interested in the game at 18+ years of age .
It isn’t appreciated in here but a 18 year old is best served having played 50-60 senior games of community footy over playing major league junior football .
I fully get the reasoning for both sides of the arguement , however if it becomes a bidding war it is quite highly community / district clubs will win as there is generally greater community engagement as the footy / netball club is that towns only means of engaging the community and large business ( farming ) are prepared to invest to see the footy club survive and thrive .
TAC cup sides ( or whatever it’s called this week ) have a lot to answer for as well . It’s not that long ago that more kids were being drafted out of community leagues than premier leagues , now these sides are dominated by premier league players and kids are reporting being told they must be in these premier league aligned junior comps .
They are strengthening the junior only comps but increasing the fall out of people playing the game .

The problem is the afl look at the American system, where in their sports there is no sport post high school locally. Our game is built from the English style where every town has a club. The afl don't want community sport, as they see that as people not watching afl and loss of income
It really is time to return to self governed leagues, no cap, nor points because the longer this continues the more damage is being done to community football.
