Warragul spend big, haven't done anything since Graham Gahan was coach though- for you younger folk google Graham to see how far back he played and coached
No hate toward Euroa as I'd imagine they're reasonably well run considering the standard of the comp and their recent finals appearances but Hayes told someone I know that he missed the more professional environment hence his move back to Blues VFL but with the performances Warragul have dished up over last 10 or so years he might be disappointed!

They've brought in a number of ex AFL recently who have under performed (in particular Sumner) or stayed 1 year - Nick Graham was a good performer in a bad side and Jed Lamb when fit has been quality but they've been stuck around the bottom for years despite some pretty consistent junior success.

I did see Euroa was advertising for a couple of Ruckmen.
Good luck with that and if lucky enough in finding a couple of big fellas they’ll come with a massive price tag !! I know how hard it was for the swans trying to attract a ruckman before picking up big kovacevic who didn’t come cheap To his credit he more than held his own also winning the clubs B/F

Totally agree Swoop. I know Rochy have been chasing a big ruckman for years as they come with a high $$ value. You only have to look at Morris in the GF. And Holland obviously a Morrison medal winner. The two best in the comp last year. Your bloke probably third best. You look back at blokes like Mark Blake at Mooroopna years back and how he would he would dominate the centre contests. Size does matter!!

And not forgetting big Jake Reeves what a massive part he played in Ky winning a couple those grannies

It really is time to return to self governed leagues, no cap, nor points because the longer this continues the more damage is being done to community football.
Community football? Nobody goes anymore. Take away the netballers, thirds and seconds and there's nobody there. People and times have changed.
  • Deer Park will do just that ..buy a flag this year. It is their second year in the EDFL and they will do whatever it takes.
  • 2 VFL players join an O&M club for 40K each
  • One player in the NCFL was on 70K just to play, another offered 65K to join a club in that comp this year
  • Coach in the Bellarine League on a reported 65-70K
  • A club in another strong league are giving away blocks of land
  • Better teams are staying up top because all other teams have the same Cap and in some instances points
  • 2 GV players offered 30K each to play in the NCFL
  • Hoppers Crossing flew in Jed Anderson from Darwin and another from the Gold Coast, resulting in winning the flag by a point.
I'm all for a Cap if it is enforced but it's not. Some clubs are cheating and apart from Deer Park and Wang Magpies, there has been little enforcement of the rules. We have players again following the money. It's time for this sort of stuff to be investigated or get rid of the cap. Football quality in the country is diminishing each year. The Bendigo League is on its knees. Its time for a review!
And that's why nobody attends. Dirty business.

Are you deliberately looking for a reaction?
Pathetic post.
Yeah not great, apologies, but think of the volunteer. All the time and effort to line someone's pockets. Cat is out of the bag. Lots of volunteers reassessing and moving away from footy. That's the reality. Pre season starting 5 months out - what a joke!

In my time the footy boots would go away post GF and the cricket bats came out. Often the same coaches and certainly the same players. That was and is community football at Rochester.

Problem is this big club called Echuca have changed the rhythms of summer. Rather than bat and ball they are training teaching their forward press across all grades. They won all grades in 2023.

The times of doing both sports has passed for many. Pre-seasons starting after Australia Day were the norm 20 years ago. I am not sure who thought it would be advantageous to start training in November and December. It makes it a really long season.

I remember thinking of the likes of Sam Ahmet, Ramadan Yze or Paul Newman who would regularly step from an A Grade cricket grand final one weekend, into a GVL Round 1 with maybe one weekend between.

But it’s not a new thing . Call recall starting pre season in the last week of October in the late 90’s which obviously is now 25 years ago .

Ridiculous post
Is it though? Maybe the last part.
Going to the local (or AFL) footy doesn't have the draw it once did. I remember when i was younger if i wasnt playing, and i didnt attend a game of footy, it was a wasted weekend (loved having a bye, going to a saturday game then GV would regularly have sunday games)
Go to any country game and crowd numbers are half what they used to be. Shepp don't even open the car entry at deakin till half time coz they don't have the volunteers.
Johnny's right... take away the parents of junior players, how many people are attending games that aren't playing?
(I won't bring up the halcyon days of the 80s and 90s 😁)

Still pretty good crowds when I rock up to local footy

It's interesting, Echuca have cashed in with getting organised early. I was keen for two runs prior to Xmas but was told that we always do a solid block before Xmas. I prefer the old days .

Maddox, although not playing footy anymore is still playing cricket and captaining the A grade team, there are others playing footy and cricket like Jack Russell, Mueller, but nothing like it was.

I think this, among other things is a huge reason why football in general is struggling throughout the north east.
Who wants to start training in October or November and have the guts ran out of you, 2 sometimes 3 nights a week?

If anyone wonders why money rules football, maybe take into consideration that football controls lives, amd should be compensated accordingly, especially in today's landscape

I say it even year. Local footy pre season should not be allowed prior to Christmas

On the money Roota.
Depends on how much you want it really. Good to keep fit and healthy. No harm in that. Most clubs have a few runs before Christmas then leave it up to the individual after that. Most then check in via apps on how they are travelling. Not sure it’s as big a problem as others might think.

Geelong in the afl dont want to see their over 30s before Christmas, yet local clubs have already started
