Sorry Mods if this isn't really about North. Move it if you want. I just thought to get into the spirit of Grand Final week I'll run a Grand Final Trivia Comp. Questions aren't especially about North. First listed correct answers gets the point.

Question 1)
Amon Buchanan kicked the last goal of the 2005 Grand Final to put the Swans in front. Prior to this, when was the last time the last goal of a Grand Final was decisive to who won the premiership? (Not Twiggy Dunne in 1977 as it didn't give Collingwood the flag) :D

1964. Neil Crompton. Back pocket who followed his opponent downfield and had the ball land in his lap for a quick snap that went through? Just about my earliest memory in footy listening to that on the radio.

Groucho gets a point. Neil Crompton for Melbourne in 1964 won Melbourne the flag with his only goal for the year moments after "Gabbo's goal". It was very late in the game, unlike Buchanan's goal at the 19 minute mark.

1984

Ess 5-15 - 14.21
Haw 10.8 - 12.9

One point for sross!! Between 1969-1971 all 3 Grand Finals were won by the side trailing at 3/4 time. Since then only Carlton in 1981 and Essendon in 1984 have done it. North Melbourne trailed at 3/4 time in 1977 to draw, and then win the replay.

Question 3)
Kevin Bartlett won the Norm Smith in the first Grand Final of the 80s. Tony Shaw won the Norm Smith in the first Grand Final of the 90s. James Hird won the first Norm Smith of the 2000s. What must James Hird do in the last year of this decade for a pattern set by Bartlett and Shaw to continue? (Hope you get this question!)

Present the Norm Smith to the winner on the day

One point for Hotel 6! KB began the 80s by winning the Norm Smith for Richmond but ended it coaching them to the wooden spoon. Tony Shaw did the same thing at Collingwood in the 90s. James Hird needs to coach Essendon to the 2009 wooden spoon for this pattern to continue. Let's now pray that it does.

The first that I can think of is Jezza in 1979......has there been one since?

Jezza was carried off by trainers - not on a stretcher. There have been 3 since. Bruce Tempany in 1982 (with a broken arm!), Justin Murphy in 1999 and one since then.

* Gary Buckenara did his knee in 1983, but he too was carried off (awkwardly) by trainers.
