Great Doggies victories

Apart from the one's mentioned in the other thread, a few magnificent come back's come to mind.

One against the cats and another against the crows, both with us down at 3 quater time only to come back and snatch the win. The one against the crows was particularly special because of what they did to us in '97 :D

2 big wins in 1985 are favorites of mine

the win against red hot flag faves Essendon in the first half of the season when we went on a goal rampage in the 3rd.

the other was the late season match against Hawthorn when we came from 4 goals down to win and confirm our place in the finals. We only kicked 5 goals for the match.

another was the win over the Eagles in the last match at Whitten Oval

Three that come to mind for me are:

In 2000 vs Carlton at Optus Oval where we had heaps of injuries and they had a long unbeaten streak.

In 1997 vs Sydney in the final, nobody gave us a chance.

In 1995 vs WCE in Perth which was our first ever win there and made all the more harder when Chris Grant couldn't play because of injury.

Breaking essendon's winning streak
Breaking Carltons winning streak
97 final v Sydney @ MCG (probably one the the best footy games I've seen the Dogs play in)

The St Kilda game where we wom by a point, absolutley broke the Saints players hearts. That mightn't be one of our greatest wins, but gee it was good to see the look on their faces.

Our first win down in Geelong for 30 years (or thereabouts) when we came back from 50 something points down to roll them in the second half.

We went through a stage there for a while where we were the 'Comeback Kings' with a few good wins from out of the blue when we were getting flogged. Does anyone remember the teams we played those times. If I remember correctly we did it numeropus times in the space of a few rounds.

Great wins

Vs Collingwood 1990. We led all day and then late in the last quarter Collingwood hit the front and had all the momentum in the last quarter.
In a frantic finish Steve Wallis got the ball out to Leon cameron who ran down the outer wing of the MCG and passed it to seven Kolynuik, who baulked and ran around Graham Wright and from about 4o metres out running at full pace put the ball through the middle giving the Doggies a 3 point win.
That is my favourite Doggies win due to the daring and bold way they won it against the flow.
It was Collingwood's last defeat before their 1990 Premiership.

Beating the Eagles in 1997 at the WACA.

Chris's 150th, coming off a drubbing in the previous week by Adelaide, everyone was starting to write off our early season good form, then we set up the victory with a brilliant 3rd quarter.

The Eagles came back hard in the last quarter and looked like pinching it, but we steadied with goals to Grant and Monty to give Chris the perfect 150th.

This is my favourite home and away win as well. All the more special as some collingwood supporters were giving me grief when they hit the front only to be sunk by Billy the Kid. You may have seen me jumping up and down on my seat in the Ponsford stand after the win. :D

The Crows at the 'G in 98 after being down by 40 at 3/4 time after being crap for 3 quarters.

The comebacks at Geelong were special too. Won by 7 in 98 after being 17 down at 20 minute mark. Geelong supporter at that time shouted at me he couldn't understand why we were top 4. 10 minutes later I told him "thats why".

The 97 final v Sydney was exhilarating.

Win at Optus with first gamer Murphy kicking the winning goal was special with so many out. 97 at WACA with Wallace being intervieved prior to siren was sensational.

Beating Crows over there 3 times in a row when not favoured.

Home v Collingwood with Graeme Allan kicking across goal to Beasa was fantastic - 85 I think.

Finals wins are the most satisfying, and I've only seen 4 of those :(

1985 v North in 1st Semi. Hawthorn steamrolled us by 90+ points in the QF, but we bounced back brilliantly the next week. Pieman got his 100th for the season, Hawkins gave Dipper a bath (had over 40 possessions - BOG by a mile)

1992 v Saints in 1st Semi. Again CAts thrashed us in QF, Saints at waverley expected to knock us out in straight sets. Strong wind to the non-scoreboard end and we kicked something like 5 goals to 1 against it in the 2nd qtr. Saints kicked 8 goals in junk time by that stage we were 12 goals up. Harvey's worst ever game of AFL football (he hasn't had many bad ones). Frost doing an Ablett out of the boundary throw-in in the last minute.

Also loved 1997 and 1998 QF victories, even though they were both blow-outs. First qtr against Swans almost perfect football.

Loved the 3 wins in 2000 against Bombers, Carlton and North, but favourite non-final was in 1992 against Saints at Moorabbin. We had 6 key players out, Saints were on a roll, and we got up by 2 goals. Real gutsy effort, with Del Re in fire! Also loved Adelaide comeback at MCG in 1999, week after Blighty announced his resignation.

Brillant last quarter.

It was actually 1999 Sporty.

We also has another great win the week before that game against North, who were in awesome form. We played them at the MCG and Grant was unstoppable at CHF, kicked 5 goals in the 2nd quarter and 6 for the match to set up an unbeatable lead.

4th of June 1984, Collingwood leading by a couple of points with about a minute left in the game and Graham Wright (Collingwood) short passing back into the Footscray goal square at the Geelong Road end to Beasley who marked and goaled (after the siren I think) and Jim Edmonds explaining to Wright exactly what he thought of him.

Graeme Allan not Wright?
Welcome spiritof82

Any time we beat Adelaide or West Coast over there.

I particularly liked knocking Adelaide off four times in a row at Football Park (1997, 1999, 2000 & 2001).

What a month that was. we also came from behind to beat Geelong (Huddo centring to Darcy by kicking the ball out of mid-air as it was about to go over the boundary) and won interstate (Sydney?) as well.
