My first bat in junior cricket in the 80s was a County bat, you don't see them anymore, not surprising as it was a shithouse bat.
In high school, I had an Indian made version of a Gray Nicholls Double Scoop.

It was a covered white bat and it was a plank. It was simply awful, the worst bat I have ever used.

I had to use it for the season because Mum bought it for my birthday and I was too scared to tell her that it was absolute garbage.

And to make it worse, she wrote (in big letters with black texta) on it, ‘happy birthday’.

My mates took the pi55 out of me by calling it the great white hope.

I was so embarrassed to use it.

The County bat I had was a shithouse lightweight bat that I used when I played junior cricket from about 9 through to about 12.

Then I got selected for the Subi Floreat district team so my dad thought I should buy this kid a proper bat as he is a rising talent.

He took me to a cricket store to pick out a bat, I picked an SS Jumbo that Viv Richards used, it didn't help me bat like Viv though.

I had the County Dean Jones LE.

Was a cannon!

The owner of Saxon bought the rights to around 20 years ( if you live out East you'll probably know )
They are a nice bat - I used an SP hammer for a season . The wood on the top range was very nice , quite soft so needed so working in .

Nice to see they are still around, always were good to deal with .

Mine was a county Clive Lloyd ' supercub '. Inherited it from a family friend.
Halfway through my first season it sounded like was aluminium, wood had gone in it. Sounded terrible but did the job 😆

Fairly sure this is Queenstown in NZ??

I played a round of golf there on a public course that was right next to the airport runway 10 years ago when me and the misses were on holiday

The only thing separating the course and the runway was a 12 foot high chain link fence. Bit weird addressing the ball for your next shot when there is a plane about to take off (or land) only about 75 metre's away.

I bought an SP white diamond and for the price it was it’s a piece of junk IMO. Next bat will definitely not be an SP.
