Great Metal Bands

Anyone else think AC/DC are overrated or is that just me? Probably gonna get flamed for this but I think a lot of their songs sound the same.
Really enjoying 13 by Black Sabbath at the moment though.

I have little time for AC/DC but they're not over-rated. Iconic band by anyone's measure.
Have enough quality riffs to see out ten bands output..

Not a metal follower but love some of the darker stuff around from bands such as Gojira, Blut Aus Nord, Sunn O)))
Is Deafheaven considered Metal? Their new album goes well.

I do like AC/DC but I think they overused the E A D chord combos... their songs are pretty similar.

Ask the person on the street who they think is the greatest band in the world and they'll probably say Coldplay or the Killers. If they're a little more daring they might suggest AC/DC or Ramones. But all these bands have something in common: they have one song. Not literally, because they have the decency to give them different names – but they are all essentially reworking the same musical idea over and over again.

AC/DC are not a metal band. They're Hard rock/ Rock n' Roll.

Metallica is head and shoulders above the rest for me personally, absolute favourite band on the planet.

Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, At The Gates, Megadeth 20 years ago round out my top 5 of old school metal bands.

surely it can't really be denied that black sabbath and metallica are the greatest metal bands, defined their respective genres and although they have both gone to shit (haven't listened to 13 yet actually) their great albums are among the best that metal has to offer, closely followed by maiden and slayer.

some more recent stuff though, some don't consider it metal but I ****ing love Baroness, all three of their albums are incredible, Lazarus A.D. awesome new (formed 2005) thrash metal band and can't get enough of Machine Head atm. also apart from their last couple of albums mastodon are pretty su8.

quality stuff.

*EDIT* damn not sure how to properly embed youtube vids.

*DOUBLE EDIT* can't stand AC/DC sorry, all their songs are exactly the same, i dounno they just bore me.

Best pack ever.

Metallica are gods to me and their Soundwave set in Perth this year blew me away like nothing has before http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/metallica/2013/claremont-showgrounds-claremont-australia-4bdb7fe2.html.

Honourable mentions to Sepultura (with Max), Machine Head, Pantera, Coal Chamber, Tool (could argue they aren't really metal) and while Karnivool's Thermata was amazing, they didn't follow up on it unfortunately.

One band I missed at the time (got into raves and D&B) and only started listening to in the last 2 years is Sevendust. Wow!

Felt like a tool for not going to SW this year after I saw the setlists for Metallica and The Offspring. Both had plenty of classics in them (although I did go to the Offspring sideshow where they played all of Ignition. Was sweet!). Also surprised at the comments about Karnivool. Sound Awake doesn't really have the same heavy riffing as Themata, but it's still a very good prog/alternative album. Their new album seems to have a bit more of a mix of the two sounds though.
