Griffen, Gia, Eagle, Hahn

Four players roundly bagged last week. No not just last week ... most of the year. We've all been critical of them at some stage, and rightly so.

Tonight, however, they all stood up:

Griffen - regained his flair, put on the afterburners and set up goals. 22 possessions even though he didn't play too much of the 2nd half. 7 CPs and a goal to cap it off.
Gia - 33 possessions, admittedly not many of them CPs but that's not his role. His delivery was excellent in difficult conditions and he was determined to be in the contest all night.
Eagle - close to BoG with 30 possessions and 3 goals. What the stats don't tell is how much hard running he did OFF the ball. A revelation ... his influence tonight has certainly given Eade some food for thought about 2010. I wasn't a great fan of his mid-year but I'm happy to be converted.
Hahn - Only 13 possessions but he made them count. The man who had only kicked 1 goal in 4 finals now has 5 from 5! Nine CPs too.

Between them this quartet had 12 of our 21 assists for the night.

Not all fashionable players but that's what a premiership side needs - not just champions doing their usual brilliant stuff. They need the rank and file lifting themselves to new heights.

So let's give credit where it's due - a great game from these four!

The thing is though, will they do all that next week? The difference between us and the saints is that they all play their role, week after week. We need those 4 to play exactly like they did tonight, and the other 18 as well. Maybe a bit more of Lake, and it'll be party time:thumbsu:

no doubt we will knock them off next week........week off........counts for everything......but......we are match hardened with the lions up fward with the big talls no reason why we cant do the same with reiwolt and the other big elma fud that gia smashed a few years back.........anyway i hate being a dissapointed bulldogs fan im looking at the bigger picture.........this is our year..........:thumbsu:

Hahn could still rise again. There were times tonight (last night now) when we kicked to Acker up forward when Hahn was probably a better option. Need to make sure we're not too Acker focused when going forward against the Saints or they'll catch on like Brisbane started to.

Well Eagleton played well last week. Griffen is great in every final he has played except for the one where he missed 3 weeks and was clearly unfit to play it. Gia was coming back from a 7 week layoff and IMO the club got it wrong by playing him in hte seniors straight away.

Hahn is really the only one who had no excuses last week and played poorly.

Eagleton: Past couple of months have been fantastic, workrate is the key:thumbsu:

Griffen: Good last night, tackling and run was exceptional:thumbsu:

Gia: Used the ball very well just about every time he got it last night:thumbsu:

Hahn: Finished off the good work further afield:thumbsu:

Would like us to at all times have either Hahn or Minson deep at FF as the get out option, still need a big bloke deep, Aker deep is fine, as long as there is some height next to him IMO

Eagle really stood out. I agree Dogwatch - his workrate was magnificent. He just ran and ran to provide an option. Loved his game!

Excellent post Dogwatch. These guys were under the pump and they stood up. Next week they need to do the same.

so glad those boys stood up.
considering the windy conditions, the kicking wasn't too bad and we really stood up when we needed to.
the pressure may have been on us (according to vossy & mitch clarke) but now it's back on the saints.
come on dogs!

as a supporter my totally unbiased view is that Eagleton was the clear BOG workrate was exemplary. Althogh I did have a little wager on the doggies thanks :thumbsu:

Eagleton has really won me over, i was praying he'd give it up a month or two ago. Now i dont know whether i want him to play on, or go out on a good note.

Help me

To kick a winning score next week I really think at least 2 of these guys need to step up (throw Bob into that mix too) We know Aker and Johnno will kick goals but we need some more avenues than them next week. Although it was the right move to drop Hill, I would still love to see him start on the bench next week, as if he turns it on, it could be the difference. Dropping Welsh wouldn't make a difference to our structure or the result, it's definitely arisk worth taking.

Agreed.
These players listed above have to play like this for the next 2 weeks. Not just turn it on against inferior opposition. Names are made from here.

Let's not slap to many backs just yet.:)
