I thought he was fantastic. He presented all afternoon and was sensational as a strong lead-up target. Needs to start imposing himself physically in big marking contests though. It'll come together given time and experience :thumbsu:

i have to say i'm yet to be impressed with gumby. doesn't look capable at all in one on one's and contested mark situations. seems to lack footy smarts. has obvious potential but its not much good being 200cm when you're only going to be taking marks in space. his kicking action is a worry, seems like just luck when he's taking a set shot as to whether he will make good contact with the ball.

i still have faith that he will become a good player for the bombers.

He was very good and probably our best but I probably agree with the above. He gets out muscled way too easily. I'm sure if he can bulk up he will become a star.

He is fine how he is. If he bulks up he will just get more injuries. I like his game as a Riewoldt style forward.

Does he actually need to bulk up?

I thought he was pretty good, maybe just a bit ginger in his movements, although that should get better as he strings more games together and gets past his back issues.

I don't think he will ever bulk up to much, always going to have a body like Hale.
Awesome workrate though!

its hard to tell considering he hasnt touched heavy weights in a few years. He'll get stronger over the next few years..

He was good today, one of the very few for us actually. The way he drops the ball onto his foot does not look good at all. I heard Lloydy in an interview some time this year making the point that he has never been that good a kick for goal. At his age, it is going to be extremely hard/near impossible to radically change his kicking style. Like someone said, he will probably kick as many behinds as goals in his career. But he was impressive today and offered plenty.

Well done Gumby. Showed some nice promising signs today despite the lack of direction when the ball entered the 50.

Shame he couldnt nail that shot at goal running in during the 1st to get us off to a good start though !

that kick that was smothered today when he was running into goal i think comes down to lack of awareness and footy smarts.

in regards to his strength, today he was beaten in a marking contest by steele sidebottom...i doubt steele has gumby covered in the strength department. i just think in the contest gumby doesn't read the ball drop well enough, doesn't have enough balance and isn't clever enough to handle his opponent and take a grab.
