Autopsy GWS beat North - game over at half time

As bad as it was on the ground yesterday, there was a great feeling in the stands among an almost exclusively North crowd. It was more like North Melbourne Anonymous meeting, where all the addicts met for support and therapy. I had beers with randoms which I never usually do, it was that sort of day. Disappointed yes, stoic, loyal, passionate yes.
Closing the top deck improves the atmosphere for small crowds, that was a good move.

Same group did half a lap of the concourse with some lame GWS chant, bloody embarrassing

I thought that was kind of funny when that happened, but I was thinking it's almost a bit embarrassing to celebrate beating us at the moment lol

I really think the title of this thread sums up exactly where we are atm.
I would love for us to still be in the games at 3/4 time. Within 3 goals? If we can be within 3 goals of the opposition at 3/4 time in our next game I will be rapt.
Unfortunately we are exactly where we were at early last year. Getting belted in the first quarter while the oposition establishes what is ikely to be our sum total score for the game, fighting back for the first 20 minutes of the second, only to die off and be ran over the top of for the remainder of the game. The only difference this season is that we've won less games and our losing margins are wider.

But apparently it's not that bad . . . Well . . . at least according to Noble and his defenders who point to the statistics. Geezuz, statistics. We used to have a saying about statistics when I served in the Army. "Beat them up long enough they'll confess". Meaning that if you over analyse them and refer to them often enough they'll tell you anything that you want to believe.

Oh dear, stick to te magic Merlin :), because the figures were about membership percentages in attendance. While 13,700 attended, 9,780 of them were actual North Melbourne members. Assuming that GWS had the odd supporter there too (including their entire Melbourne membership which consists of two men and a Dacshund named Toby), we might rightly assume that at least 1500 - 2000 of the 13,700 there yesterday were North Melbourne non-members.
I thought it was a joke when somebody posted it in the gameday thread, but there genuinely were members of the GWS cheersquad wearing Gold Coast jumpers. Must have misread the fixture before turning up to work.

Good: LDU putting in a gives a **** performance, 2 in a row. Curtis Taylor and Bailey Scott keep improving, Xerri beating a similar ruck in Flynn when they went H2H, reports that Thomas responded in the VFL

Bad: McDonald didn't show up for his 150th, Turner is such a mediocre player, need more than a weak tag if he is going to play, Powell is struggling and at any other club gets time in the VFL but is still probably best 22 for us considering forced changes

Worst: Greenwood, Stephenson, Ziebell, JHF getting himself 1-2 weeks and bringing more unwanted pressure to the club

It's witching hour unfortunately. There's about a dozen of them buzzing around like mosquitos seemingly feeling satisfied and revelling in the team's plight. When the sun rises and sanity is at its strongest they do tend to disappear.

Who on this board is "satisfied and revelling in the team's plight"? If there are trolls then perhaps I have them on ignore but all I see is a lot of (justified) angst being expressed in different ways. Some people analyse, some people vent, and some try to convince themselves everything is okay. We are at a stage where the club as a whole is giving us very little to be excited about and your expectation is that supporters should just shut up and take it on the chin?

Being awful but slightly less awful than Melbourne under Neeld isn't something to celebrate, so I'm not really sure what you expect the general sentiment to be around here.

Put an opponent on him for a start.

We are talking rocket science here. What other AFL level coach would allowed a key defender have that type of influence on the game.

Noble isn’t up to it. Anyone defending what this team has become under his coaching is in denial.
Stephenson was on Himmelburg on a few occasions and repeatedly let him run off him to influence the contest with no pressure at all.

It cost us marks and shots on goals and turned otherwise good kicking into turnovers.

Also in the worst is Simpkins disposal. I truly think he gives his all, or he believes he is, but his disposal is so so so shit. And it's because he doesn't follow through with the kick and handball a lot of the time, just tries these dinky little shit ones.

If he can turn himself into a Laird type who gives bullet handballs we'd be a much better team. He has a similar ball winning ability, Laird is more nuggety but Simpkin still has enough similarities. You don't see Laird try much kick wise other than the basics - not his role. Another role to focus on would be Hewett - Hewett much bigger body wise but in terms of having the ball winning ability, the focus to defend, and the team first mentality of giving it to the runners and the kickers (would be LDU, Thomas types). Different body types both Laird and Hewett but good similar game styles to nullify weaknesses and promote strengths.

Isn't the VFL game on today?

I usually feel much less emotional the day after the game.

Just a game of footy and all, bigger things in life to worry about.

This time though i'm still ******* furious.

Enough, do something North and do it now.

Look you can all laugh at me if you like, and if you all do I won't care. But I want you all to open your minds to the possibility that somebody has put a curse on our Game Day Banners. I point to the evidence that the team and the coach start out onto the field evidently brimming with optimism and once they crash through the banner it all goes South from that point. Now at least while nobody has actually died whilst going through the banner, I think you'd all agree that nothing good happens to those on the field once they have passed through said banner from that point on.
Maybe its the message. Might need some humour

oh, I do beg your pardon, take your point. Leave aside the detail of percentages etc, I thought it was a pretty good effort by the faithful

It’s a public holiday. They’ll do it tomorrow.

I think the most glaring issue is our inability to punish turnovers. Most of that is due to positioning but there's just far too many skill errors or fumbles that allow GWS to rebound anyway.

It is actually really sad we can't even punish teams when they are in 2nd gear or have moments of bad disposal. Forget about scoring, we have to figure out how we can even get a kick and mark inside 50.

So many issues and so many holes exasperated by confusing structures and leaky stoppage setups.

No argument here, we won't be down forever. And who doesn't want to be there when we do win that first game. Rather than singing Join in the chorus, I think I'll be singing "Oh Happy Day" :D
