http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/news/2014-09-11/mcveigh-joins-giantsMark McVeigh has been appointed to the coaching staff of the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS. McVeigh, who has headed up the PM Capital GIANTS Academy for the past 12 months, will join the club as a defensive coach. He replaces James McDonald who has decided to step away from football after three years with the GIANTS. - See more at: http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/news/2014-09-11/mcveigh-joins-giants#sthash.yJ6y9a0s.dpuf
I tend to agree, but where we need the experience is at senior assistant and higher up in the footy ops side. McConnell provides the experienced 2IC, it would be great to have a recently successful senior coach around Leon and the rest of the playing group. I liked the idea of Bomber Thompson's role to James Hird at Essendon...pity about the scandal that ruined the potential there. It seems like nobody really cares about our coaching staff .... McVeigh is an experienced player but why do we keep picking up untried coaches? Surely with such a young list experienced coaches should be more of a priority
You underestimate him. Like people underestimated Sheeds. 2007-10 he demonstrated he can coach. No no no and no.
If youve ever get the chance to hear this bloke speak, hes about as sharp as a $2.00 prostitute.
Just his replies on the asada/vitamins debate was enough to signal a no no.
May have been a good player and might be a good bloke, but for the life of me,this bloke cant speak and string 3 words together.
Will add nothing to the staff at our club.
Give me somebody who can communicate and i will be happy.
You ever hear him talk to a group of people.???You underestimate him. Like people underestimated Sheeds. 2007-10 he demonstrated he can coach.

i like the last bit here.... these specialists coming in certainly add value. But the full time positions are manned by untried explayers. I understand quality assistant coaches are hard to come by but with experience lacking on the field we need it in the staff otherwise these kids might not reach their potentialI have no problem with McVeigh as an ass coach, or young coaches like Power and Cornes. My issue is having someone like Sam Reid as a development coach who neither has a strong playing background to draw on and certainly no coaching background. We also need to make a call on who should take over from John Quinn given his health concerns, we certainly need to step up our fitness and not having someone in to replace Quinn on a full time basis is a major concern.
However one of the things I like us doing is how we bring in short term specialist coaches be it Derm, Barry Hall, Sos or wresting coaches to help with tackling skills.
