Congrats to the Giants who have had several of their players' efforts in 2011 rewarded with a place in the inaugural NEAFL Team of the Year!

(Basicall it's the All-Australian for NEAFL players)

Special congratulations to the following players:

Jack Hombsch (full back)

Jonathan Giles (ruckman)

Dylan Shiel (first rover)

and also Jeremy Cameron got a place in the interchange.

Hopefully these boys will deliver on their potential in the AFL as well, very looking forward to seeing them play on the AFL stage!

Congrats for the boys! Obviously NEAFL isn't the highest standard of footy, but it's a good sign that we've had our players recognised and hopefully it means that they'll be capable of making some sort of decent impact at AFL level after a solid pre-season!!

Hombsh is a bit of a surprise - I like him but he gets outsized on most days - at another AFL club he'd be playing on the second or third tall defender, he's about the size of Andrew Mackey and that's the sort of role I think he'd be suited to going forward - of course at the moment he's the best we've got and done really well under the circumstances.

Dylan Shiel is a gun - Gold Coast can sprout about Swallow but I'd take Shiel any day.

As much as I like and am impressed with Shiel, Swallow was 4th in the Liston Trophy at the same age (VFL best and fairest). Has Shiel pretty well covered on exposed form at the same age.

Likewise I think Coniglio has not only performed to a greater degree in a tougher competition (at a younger age aswell), but also has greater scope for improvement.

People were also raving about Toy much like they are Shiel and whilst they are different players and I think Shiel will show far more, don't expect him to have solid impact straight away.
