Seems like he has a victimhood complex.

For 8 years he didn’t speak up about the racism nickname and jokes. He could have spoken with Leon Davis and maybe, approached management to stop it. Could have spoken with the AFLPA or with the AFL itself.

Sure he could argue it’s not his responsibility to stop other people’s racism but seriously you need to speak about it.

In his own words, after confronting the group the nickname and jokes stopped.

By the way, other players should have stepped in and called out the racism.

“if you work at triple j and you’re white, you’re part of the problem.”

Is that a racist statement

Definitely. It's Junkee though so not sure it's credible on any matter apart from the top 10 masterchef moments from the night before.

This is what i found strange, they called him "chimp" for a number of years, if it was so offensive to him why didn't he speak up straight away?
has anybody else confirmed that he was called that? i always thought it was "H"

Why didn't he speak up at the time - didn't want to jeapordise the fame, women, money, publicity - perhaps ???

The thing is, he already spoke about all of this in a 2017 documentary and subsequent postings at the time. The timing of this latest post wreaks of an attention seeking self-absorbed dickhead. As much as he thinks it is, it’s not always about Harry.

seems like he should continue speaking out until he at least gets an apology, similar to the one Goodes got.

Can anyone tell me if they are capable of separating the issue at hand from the person who they think is a flog?

And if not, is it because you disagree with his message?

Very confusing.

Also BigFooty 'Why didn't he speak up sooner if it was so bad'

My guess is that he decided retrospectively that he didn't like it. Also that the problems others had with Harry were with Harry, while Harry thought they were with his skin.

They think big at Collingwood, I'll give them that. Harry wanted to speak to Obama, while Buckley feels qualified to advise Trump and Morrison on leadership.

so, many BigFooty users are still horrible at discussing all things Lumumba related, just as they were in 2013.....

Good on him for speaking up - again.
There are much more important social issues to be discussing in these times that this flog trying to hijack other peoples current dilemmas for his own benefit.
Nothing worse that self-centered, blame seeking, dicks like this bloke using other peoples pain to promote his own self interests.
Most of us don't want to discuss him - we simply want him to go away and stop making shit up to generate publicity for himself.
Don't blame us - we didn't start this crap !!!

Is everyone protesting at the moment just deciding retrospectively that they don't like it? Otherwise why didn't they speak up sooner...

Was he still playing when ed made his gorilla 'joke' on the radio?

Not all clubs have the support networks like the indeginious institute at Richmond and they especially didn't 10 years ago.

Imagine you are one of a handful of non white people at the club and everyone from the coach to the president gave you a racist nickname how comfortable would you be speaking up?

I hope it shines a very uncomfortable light over Eddie, how he survived that racial slur is unbelievable
I wonder if he’s part of the reason there is only 1 indigenous player currently on Collingwoods list....

The AFL and all clubs still have to improve on dealing with racism, but that doesn't change the fact Harry is a self important obnoxious flog who desperately looks for attention.

He had no problem with any nickname for years, when he said he didn't like it anymore it immediately stopped. The Eddie Mcguire thing is a beat up. In context smart people understand it was not a racist attack on Goodes, just a dumb slip of the tongue.

McGuire has a serious case of foot-in-mouth, but for all his flaws I don’t think he’s a racist. Remember his furious “borderline racism” over-reaction in 2011? Clubs have changed a lot since “As long as they conduct themselves like white people...”

Harry’s always given the impression of being a troubled soul. His timing here is suspect.

Yeah imagine bringing up racism issues during what is potentially the biggest protest over racism the world has seen.

How many chances does Ed get to pass off the it was just a mistake excuse?

I'm sure Eddie doesn't look at POC and think "I don't like that person because of their skin colour". But his slip ups still aren't excusable. And he has slipped up more than anyone would want to admit. And that's just on air.

Can you explain why Heretier's timing is suspect? Because if his timing is suspect then I would say anyone speaking out about current events is. Which, it isn't.

Eddie should have been sacked for his comment about Goodes but this sounds like an attention seeker trying to cash in and make out he is the victim after throwing his career away thanks to his ego and allegedly drug use.
