ahhh my useless memory for stupid facts come in handy here... apparently the brown dog wears a shin guard in the leg in which he has his sock pulled up.. the skin split open in his shin or something along those lines when he was younger and is still tender/possibly at risk of splitting open again hence the sock covers the shin guard
