FTA-TV Hamish and Andy: Gap Year

Anyone else watching this?

I love Hamish and Andy on the radio and their caravan of courage shows were hits as well. I imagine Gap Year will also be a huge hit and will end up being a must see TV show of the week.

It's solid. Guests are good and the pre recorded stuff is entertaining. The in studio parts seem a little awkward first up and they really need to sort out their sound volumes as it's all over the place.

The studio stuff sucks as always with these two. I was expecting better, they should make the studio parts more guest based, and less scripted, and have more pre-shot stuff too.

They will grow into the studio stuff as the season goes. The Taylor Swift bit was ok but that falling asleep part was shizzen.

I'm sure they will have more hits with the pre shot stuff than stuff that misses. The cat fish part was LOL and they are much better when taking the piss out of themself or the yanks.

There is a reason none of the US talk shows have two hosts. It's always a host + sidekick. Two hosts just doesn't work.

Was alright- certainly not in the category of a "Warnie" or Ben Elton live crap. Still some parts were very weak.

Also wanted them to ask Doogie Howser.... well about DOOGIE ffs. He was funny. They didnt seem they actually had their guests on for long, which is dumb imo.

Predictably atrocious. Has anyone actually noticed that ANDY HAS NEVER SAID OR DONE ANYTHING FUNNY IN HIS ENTIRE LIFE!!! He must feel like he's won the lottery - the bloke's given absolutely nothing (except many untimely laughs at his slightly more talented partner) and got paid insane amounts of money, not to mention shag Megan Gale.

Channel 9 paid 17 mil for these annoying prats. Sooner the show is cancelled the better.

Was pretty average, not Ben Elton Live from Planet Earth terrible but nothing special.

Must be costing Nine a fair bit to produce with it being based in the States. Although it looks like they may have cut back on the studio production costs, the sound was all over the shop, it was like a community television production.

Love Hamish and Andy's radio show but for whatever reason they don't work as well on tv.

I didn't mind it, but then again I'm a huge fan. The worry was that their show wouldn't translate from Radio to TV and I'm willing to give them a few weeks to warm up to it. They definitely need to change up their interviewing techniques. What they did with the Taylor Swift interview works on radio, but it's not as good on TV as it provides many awkward moments. Also, I think Hamish and Andy were meant to sing the song... but that got all mixed up.

The other issue is that Hamish keeps cutting off Andy, he got away with it on the radio but it looks amateur on TV.I think Andy has the potential to be pretty good, but will always sit in Hamish's shadow. On the other hand, I thought the Catfish part was hilarious, topped off with Hamish getting pulled up by the cop.

Will watch next week and for the next few weeks, hopefully they warm up a bit.

Finally someone I can agree with!

Yes I thought the start was a bit awkward and not polished, thought their props and items they have are original and genius and most importantly funny. I was a bit worried at the start but once the catfish reel came, the rest was gold and, for me, if they produce the same quality as that I reckon it will be a success.

But yeah, Hamish cutting off Andy is something they need to work on it get's a bit annoying. And they need to extend the interview times.

Agree with the bolded part. I've been downloading their podcasts for years and the funny segments have been Hamish dominated. Andy just provides Hamish with the setups.

I thought the catfish clip was good. Much like the Caravan of Courage as they were just doing their own thing with cameras around. The falling asleep was a bit meh as it was faked up.

The hosting aspect was not so great but it's kinda how they were like when they made appearances on Rove. I just get the impression that whenever Hamish appears on TV, he tries to be funnier than he needs to.

Because the studio stuff was painful and awkward (go watch an American late night show for tips H&A), the guest interviews average and short and while the pre-shot stuff was good, there wasn't much of it.

If H&A want to spend that much time talking to the camera and whatnot, they need to hire writers for it, and they also need to come up with a better interviewing style.

For mine, I didn't even realise it was going to be this kind of show, I thought it was going to be 80% pre-recorded stuff and 20% intros.

What a terrible audience too. Ever heard of getting a warm up comedian or something to get the crowd in the mood/laughing in the right bits.

Even the relatively funny stuff didn't garner laughs from the crowd.
