Such a stupid act. Makes my blood boil. There is no exaggeration in saying doing what Cameron did there could have killed him.Not sure if it's been shared here, but there was a good GIF shared on Reddit. Cameron's definitely getting a long holiday.
There is no "reckless" category, at least officially, only careless and intentional. If the contact is rated as severe (and it should be) then the base sanction for both is 3+ weeks and as dlanod says there is no discount for an early plea. He also has a relevant bad record. As for making a statement, the rules last year (not sure about this year) provide that the Tribunal can do just that:
For incidents referred directly to the Tribunal, serious intentional
actions and/or serious misconduct will be subject to greater sanctions
commensurate with the potential to cause serious injury and/or the potential
to prejudice the reputation of any person, club or the AFL or bring the game of
football into disrepute
The kid has a brain bleed. He's very fortunate if he didn't sustain a brain injury. This is the sort of thing that will cause parents to stop their kids playing the game. How much more does there have to be to make a statment that this has no place in our game. He led with his elbow. Less than 6 and the AFL isn't serious.
That was my pic lol. I agree it shows no depth. The reason I chose this pic is because a poster said that when he played footy he routinely used his forearm to brace against contact to protect his ribs. That’s why I circled his forearm and ribs. In no way does that still show that his is trying to protect his head OR ribs! His forearm and elbow are at the height of his shoulder. You do not protect yourself by doing this. You do not see boxers or mma fighters cocking an elbow to protect their head or ribs. They have their arms tucked in and forearm is vertical to cover your body against impact.I'm not sure it's conclusive - there's no depth in that photo. Going off the footage on the weekend I think the fist goes passed his face, i.e. it's actually closer to the camera than Harris's head but the photo can't show that, and the contact is still with the elbow.
From what I understand from how the AFL judged the Fyfe case early in the year that's irrelevant. If he meant to throw the elbow (at the body or the head) then its an intentional act.Whether or not he wanted to hit his head only Cameron knows for sure.

You see an mma fighter using it as a weapon.
To me it shows he was intent on making contact with Andrews in a forceful way.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Harris Andrews,
will be at the game this weekend and was looking forward to watching him play. Guy is a dead set gun, was finally starting to get the recognition he deserved.
Hope Cameron has the book thrown at him, there was nothing but malice in his actions on the weekend.
Oh I completely agree and that’s my point... that eventhough he may not have intended to hit Andrews in the head. I believe it’s clear that his intention was to make forceful contact. Also, watching the reply it looks as if he actually slightly raises the elbow even more upon hitting Andrews. As I have said before to me all this screams his intention was to hit him. From what I understand from how the AFL judged the Fyfe case early in the year that's irrelevant. Hopefully we can have a win for the Harris (and all of our WA supporters).Yeah there's obviously bigger things at play here and I'm crushed to have lost arguably our best player but I only get to see them once a year too and I was really looking forward to seeing Harris. Super disappointing that he won't be with the team on Sunday.
It’s tough being a Lions supporter in WAHopefully we can have a win for the Harris (and all of our WA supporters).

I cop a lot of flak for following the Lions! Especially because I have one of ‘clean’ shopping bags with the Brisbane lions logo all over it and I bring to work everyday with me!

Terry Wallace still of the view that Gardiner’s push contributed to the severity of Cameron’s hit

It’s actually embarrassing listening to KB and Wallace discuss this issue; it’s like they’ve only seen the incident once given it is completely obvious they haven’t seen the stills and various angles and here they are talking about the incident with some sort of authority.Yeah, no way is that a push. Gardiner had his hand on Cameron's arm - if there was force, it would have turned Cameron rather than caused him to move forward. But then I'm surprised anyone pays attention to Wallace at all.
Have you been to the new stadium yet? This week will be my first game there.
