Player Watch Harry DeMattia

In order for your joke to work even a tiny bit Harry would need to show something at AFL level but the only thing he's known for to date is telling the world he's going to be a leader of the Club.
Irrelevant pulp or not my point was very easy to comprehend.
But alas, I might need to lower my expectations even further.

ps. Funny how these things work out but to reinforce my point he finished time trial along side of 2 rucks and a player that's given up, onwards and upwards from there.
Yet, Harry is on an AFL list and you and I are watching from the stands. You should apply for a job at the club and sort those amateurs out. The AFL world needs more Armchair experts like you

He has a crap hair cut, and a shabby mo, clearly a champion in the making. Him and Ed will tear it up this year in the seniors.

I'm very fond of Brereton, he knows a bit about footy behind all the silly bravado.

But is it a champion footballer or are you thinking pr0n champion?

Don’t think he has the attributes to play there. But looking at his 2km time trial the back pocket might be his go

I don't read much into the time trials. Footy is burst and slow rather than running at a consistent good clip. Plus he comes across as a competitive bloke who would try to keep up with the front runners and then blow up half way through rather than running the time he's capable of.

Don't like him as a back pocket. Don't think he has the aerial game to be part of the main set up behind the ball - think Ryan and TJ are the one's we're developing there.

Not seen much of HDM, one thing I did note from his VFL games was that I thought he was good overhead - especially coming back from a hand injury, from the little I've seen, I'd say he is more than average over-head for his height.

He talks in circles but I like him too. The way he talks about Allan Jeans hits me right in the feels. I sincerely get choked up.

Jeans was a savage bloke but by the time Brereton came to Hawthorn he'd mellowed and become more of a skills and character coach.

He was a wrestler and a cop, handy in a fight, and used to bash players like Dipper(!) if they played up, in some ways a cruel bully. The Hawks of his later era adored him, and he brought them glory.

He mentored many coaches, although while he did coach Matthews I think Lethal was more of a Parkin type. Does anyone know?

Hes also the **** who sent O'Dea to nearly kill Greening.

People are complicated, they do good and bad things. Jeans was a great coach, and at times a good and an evil man.

Jeans used to bash Dipper? Lmao
He would eat Allan Jeans for breakfast.

Heard it from the man himself, Jeans threw him around the locker room.

Pretty sure Dipper has told the story in interviews too.

Don't mess with wrestlers. I mean real wrestlers.

He was a cop of an era where they routinely assaulted delinquents and were terribly chauvinistic. Not possible to ascribe any good to a person who ordered that piece of thuggery.

More likely Dipper knew not to mess with the Head Coach - if he wants to throw you around the locker room - let him - he's the boss. Times have changed.

Put them in a ring and Dipper would have eaten him alive.

Only interested in his footy, what he does on his own time is his own business.

My point was more about Brereton and less about Jeans, but good to know all the same.

Read the joke again.

Comprehension Clue: Pendles is a footballer with a basketball background. He's not a basketballer with a football background.
I read that joke before it was even posted, not my fault you can grasp the point I was trying to make.

Bash Dipper 🤣. I’ll tell you now , the players respected Jeans as a Father like disciplinarian, he yelled , abused , pointed the way … Dipper was and still is a Beast Jeans only pinned Dipper up against the locker , as he did many of his players , they respected their elders , as we all did , he didn’t bash. What a load of shet .

Yep. Malthouse did the same with Glen Jakovich. Not strength or fighting ability related at all. The coach was the boss. That was the culture of the era - you didn't fight back.

2-year extension for DeMattia and Harrison

Happy to see HH sign on for the next 2 years. Really started to improvements in his game, and learning of what is required to be a regular at senior level. Has some tricks to his game, and l can see him becoming a goal kicking mid in time...
Happy for DeMattia to be given time to show he is capable at the level. I feel at the moment he would be behind Ryan and Jiath in terms of getting a game playing off HB. I'm not sure about his fitness or endurance at this stage to play off a wing, and l don't think he's strong enough overhead marking wise for a spot in the back pocket. Hopefully he can really get a good second half of his preseason in and get a good start to the season at VFL level and push his name forward for senior footy at some point next season....

Where do you see HDMs future best role?

Interesting decision. Essentially means he is signed for the next 3 seasons. Given he hasn't played a game yet and hasn't dominated VFL is it a bit premature? Club must have a higher opinion of him but whats the hurry. Would have thought seeing how he goes early 25 would be reasonable
