With Kennedy and now Whitnall gone I truly believe that Adam Hartlett should be given 1st crack at CHF. It is the position he grew up playing and for me he always looked much more comfortable there. He's a similar type to Kennedy.

What are others thoughts?

In a way, I like the way Hartlett plays CHF more than JK. Hartlett leads more, is more mobile, and is very aggressive. Also a thumping long kick. Can play CHB if needed, which JK couldn't. The big concern is obviously his terrible injury record i.e. hamstring injuries. Many players have had these problems in the past, and managed to get over them though, especially at his age. Think he was a bit disheartened with JK's arrival, and his relentless injury problems. The guy is not only very talented, but plays with a lot of passion, Hope he has a big year. It's also a great opportunity for Edwards. He has a massive opportunity in 2008. Very skillfull, good height, and extremely fast on the lead. He could be a bigger, and a lot more talented version of Rusling. :)

I think we need to build his hammies up during the pre-season so he doesn't have another injury, i feel the same way with Anderson and his hammy.

in my opinion if we take kruiser (soz About Spelling) then he could play at center half 4 ward and pinch hit in the ruck due to aisake and hampson playing ruck

As much as I loved Jk I always thought Harlett would turn out to be a better CHF. He is faster, better skilled and has some real mongrel. Kennedy had size and strength over Harts but any CHF that can turn around and kick 60m onto someones chest is a real asset.

I agree that there is a real opportunity for Edwards now, but I feel based on talent Harts will have a head start. They could could both play at the same time, but that would depend on where or if Waite plays CHB.

seen alot of hartlett at the bullants. 196 cm...very mobile and lots of mongrel, and an unbelievably long kick of the footy
injury free,,,,big asset

Yeah, he's the one bloke who could match Fev for long, accurate kicks.

I'm not sure he's the CHF type though. Think Lance, think Barry Hall, even think Hird in his early days. They bring other players into the game and generally setup more goals than they kick themselves. I don't know that Hartlett's that kind of player. That said, he should still be a very useful forward.

This might be an argument for keeping Lance around as a specialist coach. If anyone knows how to crib a career at CHF it's him.

I've seen Hartlett play and i think he can become a good player. However, Parrot, with your post something here caught my eye. His skill level is not as good as you say- although he is a powerful booming kick, he does possess alot of height and size but he is not fast- very ordinary pace. He isn't as mobile as you say for a big man but does have alot of natural aggression and mongrel in him. The comparison to Rusling is way off the mark as Rusling is a leading FF rather than a bulky CHF. Rusling also is far more talented and has shown more than Hartlett as well as being restricted by injury too.

Furthermore, a better comparison should have been to Lance Franklin/Travis Cloke/Roughead. These guys play the CHF roles in which you are hoping Hartlett develops into. Does Hartlett possess the 'go to factor to play CHF? Can he read the play? Is he capable of taking strong contested marks? Does he have a huge wind tank to constantly provide an option? At the moment (perhaps because of injury and limited opportunity) you would have to say all of those would be unknown- and that is being generous.

2008 will be his make or break year. Good luck to him.

I thought he was referring to Jake Edwards being in the mold of Rusling? Which is much closer to the mark than Hartlett.

If he can stay injury free, I think that he will be an option.

I am certain that the club is going to be monitoring his progress in training to see if they can sort out the problem hamstrings.

It could be one of the reasons why Icke and Ratts are going to Manchester United to talk to the coachs there and study with them. To see how they deal with people who have hamstring problems (Ryan Giggs springs to mind straight away) without compromising their speed and mobility.

I agree - lets give the kid a chance at CHF and see what he can do.....although it needs to be in terms of games not quarters that he gets his crack at a very tough position.
