I know this was reported about a week back - but is this news 100% confirmed?
Have not read it mentioned in any other article.... not even in ones written as fresh as 3 days ago. they all clearly mention Cgos and Brown already being gone - but nothing on JON

The only place i have seen it is on THE AGE weblink that was sent around when the word first came out?

It is not reported on the AFL website in the "Retired and Delisted" section, despite all Freo's delisting from a few days ago being in there already - among all others reported.

And i find it odd that they would only release ONE delisting so early - and hold off on other much more obvious ones such as Pettifer (although with his dads sudden death, they may have held off on this)

surely though that JON can't be that far and beyond every other delsiting on our list that he is the lone one announced weeks before the others??

I laughed when the JON Officially gone thread was racking up the posts last week.:D If I have learn't something this year it's not to believe what you read from the journo's and believe it when the club confirms it.:thumbsu:

Every day I eagerly log on to RFC website hoping to see Hardwick begin his "hard & tough" approach to our list. Every day I am dissapointed.:(

Talk, talk, talk. Let's see some hard action Hardwick, or are you just another Wallace:eek:

You can't just cull, cull, cull... you have to have so many players on your list, and you only have so many draft selections available to replace those that you cull. You don't know until after trade week what draft selections you will have at your disposal.

Thus, a proper cull has to be done over a number of years, usually two minimum. Our list is generally quite young, so we may be able to do what is needed in one or two drafts.

For me, the main thing is to ensure we do not, under any circumstances, top up with middle age duds from other teams.

If we have picked the right man for the job, in Hardwick, then some of our current "under-performing"* youngsters will develop into top 22 players (eg. Putt, Browne, Gilroy, Sylvester, Rance, Hislop, Gourdis, etc).

*Under-performing could be due to maturity, role assigned by previous coaches, attitude, or other reasons

I'll be dissapoited if I hear anymore delistings before trade week. If we have any brains we will look at trading every bloke we want to delist. I realise that i will be chewed out on BF for this but if there is a possibility that even one of these guys can be used a sweetener in a deal that gets us a higher pick then good. I'm not expecting 1st 2nd or 3rd rounders (although one or two as sweetners to freo might get us a 3rd rounder:D). We might get a fourth rounder and I would be happy with any pick we could get above 80 for any player that is marked. There is still advantage in getting picks in the 70's rather than 90's.

C'mon you don't seriously think JON will be traded do you? The guy is damaged goods and his best chance would be to play VFL next year and hope to be rookied the next year.

Sack this spud now and send a message to the group.

We haven't finished interviewing all the players yet as far as I'm aware, but when we do we'll do in a group rather than lodging it one at a time, like Freo did in a group.

West Coast are going through a similar thing to us. 2 or 3 of their players have been said in the media are gone but they haven't lodged it.

Fingers crossed, but hopefully its just media speculation. Love nothing more than JON spending one year under Hardwick so we can see once and for all if he has what the original clubs thought.

What message is that?

"We will put little effort into developing you or helping you settle in. We will give you virtually no opportunity to make it in the AFL. We are basically a prick of a club to play for. You really don't want to be drafted by us."

Has JON been cut, 100% you ask?
He was only cut 85%. The 15% we kept of him was his decision making and thats going to a new recruit we are getting in the Nat. Draft.

no thats in the show bag they get on entry into punt road

Don't care if it is JON or any one of the other 5 more players we are likely to get rid of, but if we were to get Melbournes 5th round pick for one of them we just improved a pick in the 80's or 90's for a pick 65 or better. To me that is more value than simply delisting early and having someone pick them up for nothing. Means there is less chance of missing a wanted player like happened last year. All about relative value and who are we to guess at what other value someone may see (you know, one of those teams with superior development and support setups!).

How about four years of intensive training and development for 22 average games from someone who was drafted in the top 10 and rated very highly just does not cut it at this club anymore. During his four years of "opportunity" and in 22 games has managed an average 7.6 disposals per game with a career high 13:eek:. He did however hit his straps in the four games he played this year with an average of 10 disposals per game and managed his first and only goal in his illustrious career.

This is not little league (where every one gets a game regardless of how they perform) this is AFL. This is a proffesional football organization where players receive money raised from sponsors, memberships and gate reciepts etc and if this club is to go forward and earn the money it recieves then it will be with players prepared to have a go and get the footy.

Don't kid yourself this bloke is the worst top 10 draft selection in history. If he was taken outside the first round he would have been gone two years ago. Christ even Wallace has come out since his departure and stated how bad JON is.

If you were a Melbourne supporter would you be happy for your club to draft him?

If we wan't a 5th round pick then it will come from someone like Hughes not JON.

As for other delistings if any of Richo, Pettifer, Polak or Simmonds are to finish up this year then they deserve a lap in a car at the grand final.:thumbsu:

There's no point quoting his stats as his game time was very low and he was often played in the forward line while we were getting belted. He came over as a naive 17 year old who obviously needed a lot of support to make the move from WA and we didn't even assign him a development coach. I wonder how many times Wallace ever even spoke to him.

excuses, excuses, excuses. Surely in 22 games (limited game time or not) in the forward line he would kick more than one goal:eek:.

Stick up for him if you like, no skin of my nose:rolleyes:

Well, he hasn't played 22 games for a start. He's played 13. Four in his first season, then 3, 2 and 4 this season. He never had more than 3 straight games and was usually in for a week then straight out. This season in rounds 5-7, he actually showed a bit. In limited game time he averaged 12 possessions, 8 marks and 2.3 tackles. Then he gets dropped because Wallace needed a scapegoat. He gets recalled for the game against the undefeated Saints, is positioned where the ball is never gonna come to him and then dropped again straight away, never to be seen again.

I'm with you WATIGE.

The revenge mentality gains us nothing. 'Sending a message' to the playing group will still get sent regardless of whether it's now or in 2 months.

No players except those retiring should have been cut even if behind closed doors it had been decided. We have nothing to lose by holding on for a little while longer. Like holding onto a pair of twos... the other players might fold.

i actually thought he showed a bit as a lead up forward. was fairly quick and had pretty good hands. didnt think he deserved to be dropped actually. his skills look pretty good just his decision making is horrible. forward line perhaps gives him fewer decisions to make.
i reckon he would be good with richo. somone that demands the ball and makes a lead no matter what. JON would not need to think to hard just kick it onto his chest.
