List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management for 2025

Usually do one of these before the trade period but was caught-up with other stuff this year so here is my post-trade period update! This is what I have at the moment. As you can see, firstly the list is STACKED in terms of talent (which we already knew) but is also pretty close to being completely full as it is. If what I have is correct, then we have 36 primary list, 4 Cat A and 1 Cat B locked in for next year which leaves us with limited options in terms of drafting next month and SSP/MSD in 2025.

If I had to guess, I'd say we are likely to delist-then-rookie one or both of Gunston and/or Breust for flexibility. Regardless, we can only intake a max of 2 players to primary/Cat A list at the moment plus the option of another Cat B player if we want (which I suspect we will re-sign Bennetts with).

As usual, if you spot any mistakes then please let me know :)

With this you'd reckon that Gunston's manager will inform other clubs if you select him that he'll retire. Hopefully other clubs respect his wishes and I'm sure they will.
Imagine Brisbane pick him up given Daniher retiring early 😂

He’s essentially already in an assistant coaching/development coaching role for both the men’s and women’s teams.

No club will take him on without first speaking to him and his manager, and if they do that they’ll just be told “no thanks”.

So how many picks can we take now :p
LMAO... For those late comers to the party.

3 senior list spots open. 35 on primary list now.

If we pick 3 players in ND( which we won't but if we do), that would mean we are full with 38 players on primary list & have 4 on cat A rookie and 2 on Cat B to max out to 44.

That would means Gunners can't be picked in Rookie draft which is impossible.

So we will pick max only 2 in ND even though we have 3 spots open.

If by some magic we land a first rounder without trading our pick 33 then it would be interesting to see what we do. Would assume we will try and move 33 to Futures( Suns, Lions, Dons will look to get back in draft after their bid matches)

One of the 2 is quite likely to be Cody Anderson if someone calls his name late but if they don't, he would be automatically Cat B rookie listed under NGA rules(pls confirm ? ) and we pick Gunners in RD.

Will mean we end up with 36 on primary list, 5 Cat A and 3 Cat B.

Does not make any sense unless we have something up our sleeve, in which case we need to delist another player. If we only pick up 2 in the ND, we don't need to put Gunners on the rookie list.

If we only have pick 33 and a pick for Cody A we don't need to put Gunners on the Rookie list as we have 2 available main list picks anyway.

If we have someone else in mind the main draft additional to the 2 above, we will need to also delist (and not re-rookie) a current rookie. BUT, are not all of our current players now contracted for 2025?

I find it a confusing move. OR, have I got this wrong.

Ash Johnson now a free hit as a DFA, just as an added note.

No thanks.

Pretty soft and really failed to compete at times this year when pies were crying out for forward options.

Make perfect sense if AFL did NOT give HFC an exception to 3 picks to draft rule and 3 open list spots.

Hawks didn't seek approval to take 2 picks in the draft and as such the Gunston news needed to occur. Word is that we have told Cody Anderson that we will take him if he is still available later on in the draft, otherwise if he isn't called out, he will be automatically placed onto our Category B rookie list like Bennetts was back in 2022 draft.

Gunston will be taken as a rookie in the rookie draft, which means we may only take the one pick in the national draft. However, like we all know, these things are fluid and can change.

Personally I've given up. I just don't see how this works. We even said in the statement that we'd done it to open up another list spot.
How is that possible I have no idea.
Why? To me that almost guarantees we've made a deal with another club regarding picks otherwise why would we need to make a very late pick 77 active?

It's because you need to have 3 primary list spots open each year available for the draft. You don't need to draft 3 players at the National draft though, you just need to have those 3 spaces available.

Yes. Nothing has really changed. 3 picks needed. Pick 77 now active for us which will come into the 60s with bid matching alongside pick 71 which will be an 50s pick ensures we can match Anderson bid if it comes. Also a club might give up an f3 for it on the night if they are out of picks and like someone left. It gives us more flexibility. It’s been clear for ages this was the play. Pick 33 or upgrade, Anderson and re-rookie Gunston is the plan.

At the end of the day when a player suffers a horrific impact injury like Butler had there is an expectation that the club will look after him.

It was probably line ball between Butler and Bennetts and Butler. I did see something in Butler in his first year, hopefully he can recapture that next year.
It wouldn't have been between those two. Butler is senior list and contracted. Bennetts was CATB rookie without a contract. Seems clear that once we landed Matt Hill for the CATB spot Bennetts had to be cut to make room.

Blanck will be elevated and that counts as one of the compulsory three draft picks. We have two national draft picks to complete our list. We can't add a DFA prior to the draft so if we wanted one we have to draft them. We can't add anymore rookies or cat b rookies.

We already have Hill and Henry as our two category B rookies. Unlike with Bennetts where we had a free spot.

So I can’t see how we can take Anderson as a category B rookie and we will need to take him in the national draft to get him.
