List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management for 2025

Usually do one of these before the trade period but was caught-up with other stuff this year so here is my post-trade period update! This is what I have at the moment. As you can see, firstly the list is STACKED in terms of talent (which we already knew) but is also pretty close to being completely full as it is. If what I have is correct, then we have 36 primary list, 4 Cat A and 1 Cat B locked in for next year which leaves us with limited options in terms of drafting next month and SSP/MSD in 2025.

If I had to guess, I'd say we are likely to delist-then-rookie one or both of Gunston and/or Breust for flexibility. Regardless, we can only intake a max of 2 players to primary/Cat A list at the moment plus the option of another Cat B player if we want (which I suspect we will re-sign Bennetts with).

As usual, if you spot any mistakes then please let me know :)

Without trying to defend Ralph, I imagine he meant more like Chol repeating his second year stutters at Gold Coast.

Chol's 2023 paled in comparison to his first at the Suns (22 games vs 8, 44 goals vs 10) which ultimately meant he ended up being expendable and got traded to us.
Chol was dominant in the VFL in 2023 suns just didn't play him because he wasn't a high draft pick.

If we trade up in the draft on the night - it'll be very intresting to me. Obviously there's somethign stopping us from doing it during trade period.

I suppose that could either be other clubs not willing to trade with us, or we set up a conditional trade depending whose left on the drafting board on the night.

We are trading up specifically to target someone that has slipped. So we do it on draft night

How can we possibly move up without giving up next year's first or second?

I've mentioned this a couple of times and probably only barely counts as 'trading up' but does get us a slightly better look nevertheless (probably both this year and next year). Essendon benefit by maintaining 2nd rounders both this year and next and can match Kako with more junk picks.

Trade #1 (before Kako bid) we trade Carlton's F2 to Essendon for Pick 28

Trade #2 (after Kako bid) we trade Pick 33 to Essendon for their F2

We can throw in an F4 since we have 2 given we are likely to be better off in both second rounds.

But we're already talking about doing it without knowing who has slipped and who hasn't
Yeah, but it's not likely because the cost will be too high. So, we wait till draft night if there is someone there, we really want we will pay the price

Going to be interesting over the next week in all the phantom drafts.......

HAWTHORN

Jack Ough

Midfielder/Defender, 194cm, GWV Rebels/East Point

Drafted: HAWTHORN

We say: The Hawks have expressed a desire to climb the draft order a little, with this currently being their first pick. However, that looks like being easier said than done. If they remain here, Ough is a player who would suit and the Hawks have done some work on him. A draft riser this year, the Ballarat boy spent time in defence and on a wing before primarily playing as a big-bodied onballer in the second half of the season and catching the eye. With a December birthday, he’s one of the youngest players in this year’s draft pool but already has a mature body and brings clean hands and good decision making to the table.
The numbers say: Rated above average in the Coates Talent League this season for disposals (22.5 per game), contested possessions (9.9 per game), score involvements (4.8 per game) and tackles (3.8 per game).

Sounds and looks (that picture at least) like Hustwaite.

But we're already talking about doing it without knowing who has slipped and who hasn't
Which is why it will be done on the night, if it’s done.

We trade now & the player we were interested in goes beforehand, we may have wasted our draft hand.

We wait until draft night & if the player/s we are interested in are still available, we know what we’re giving up.

I hope I’ve explained it clearly, I understand what I’m saying 😂

Would hope he’s quicker than Hustwaite if we are looking to pick him up.

Hustwaite looks good with ball in hand but his speed holds him back.

It doesn’t look like he has the freakish ability of Mitchell to make it work while being super slow. Especially with the game getting faster.

I'm a pretty good researcher on this stuff but I still do not know whether the Hawks have priority access to Cody Anderson.

If Cody Anderson is selected at pick, say 40, do the Hawks have NDA rights to him? That is, can we match at that time for free (as the matching money disappears after the 2nd round or something... is that correct... the rules do my head in).

The AFL changed the rules this year, so we can match a bid on a player from pick 1 onwards as an NGA.

Come on fellow hawk supporters, Ralph's article is nothing but praising of our list management. A really well thought out article for mine. History is most definitely a reference for young sides sliding before a sharp rise. I quite like the article. It's fair.
It’s also not saying “they will win a flag next year” - it’s a more long term assessment.
