List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management for 2025

Usually do one of these before the trade period but was caught-up with other stuff this year so here is my post-trade period update! This is what I have at the moment. As you can see, firstly the list is STACKED in terms of talent (which we already knew) but is also pretty close to being completely full as it is. If what I have is correct, then we have 36 primary list, 4 Cat A and 1 Cat B locked in for next year which leaves us with limited options in terms of drafting next month and SSP/MSD in 2025.

If I had to guess, I'd say we are likely to delist-then-rookie one or both of Gunston and/or Breust for flexibility. Regardless, we can only intake a max of 2 players to primary/Cat A list at the moment plus the option of another Cat B player if we want (which I suspect we will re-sign Bennetts with).

As usual, if you spot any mistakes then please let me know :)

Is he undisciplined or is he unhappy there, if we got would he be a problem, I think his unhappy.

I think if he gets closer to home, Harley would be happy! He never wanted to leave, you can tell this in his pre draft interviews.

He would have family support and if he came to the Hawks he’d have Nash, Newcombe and Worpel to take care of him on the ground.

* I think this would lead to increase training = improvement on field = game day performance ☝️

I agree with other posters he is selfish and dosent work hard enough defensively. But I feel we’ve had a few come in like that from other clubs and Sam has made them buy in (ginni, chol, mass?).

Offensively he’s an awesome left footed field kick, reliable set shot and great lead up target. Would give us 45-50+ goals a year I’m sure. Not sure what he would cost though. Just food for thought.
Well that’s right. The recruiting of Ginnivan surprised everyone at the time. If someone on here had of floated the idea of getting him across before we reached out to him, the thread would have gone into meltdown. Funny how things turn out.

Harley is following in the footsteps of JHF time at Norf.

I would love him at the Hawks but will take 3 first round picks which we don’t have.
I mean we have access to 3, I don’t think any club would give up 3 in the same draft for him

If Carlton bomb out a very high draft pick - top 4 and F1 would be appealing to west coast, especially if he keeps going backwards there! May cut there loses and get two first round picks.

We also have a fair amount of depth that could be traded out for draft collateral as well. There's a lot of water to go under the bridge but as you say if the Blues do bomb out then we could easily bandy together their 2nd rounder that we own along with a player for a late 1st.

If 3 x 1st rounder was their demand for him then it's not as far out of reach as some may think and that's not even looking at pick purchasing either. I'm by no means saying that's what we'd look at trading for him but just that it's no impossible to be done.

I'd love him in brown and gold but IMO that's a lot to give up when we probably need to be looking to draft our next future KPF. One could only imagine having him, Newk and Nash terrorising and wrecking opposition mids all game long.

What ever our Hawks think, they have proven runs on the board.

Either way would be a win!

Personally aim for a F/A, re-Sign Ward, Meek and Worpel.
Draft best available kids with the blues pick. Pick up a mid-late trade etc

Future draft picks won’t be worth as much, I wouldn’t think with Tassie entering and dominating future drafts.

That’s crap. He’s the exact same talent.

I dunno. Seeing him front up clearly unfit and acting so unprofessionally on field, I'd certainly be less inclined to pay up as much as I would have at the conclusion of last season.

Doesn't mean his raw talent is any less, but if there are professionalism concerns I'd be second guessing the weight of the offer in a trade.

He’s so unfit he played 80% game time as a mid against the best team in the league, got 4 centre clearances, 7 tackles, and 3rd most pressure acts on the field.

With Tim Kelly, Bailey Williams, and Liam Baker as his starting midfield help. He’s having to learn how to be the main man in the midfield as a 19yo, ridiculous.

I think the media is taking the piss, and way too many are believing this ‘unfit’ rubbish.

He’s a solid kid with puppy fat, somewhat like a certain number 1 pick that ended up being pretty good for us.

The brown and gold will be slimming.

I have wondered if he’s intentionally acting in a way so as to lower his trade price for the club he wants to get to.

He's not in the shape he should be. Jake Stringer has managed to kick 367 goals and snag a couple of All Australian squad nominations despite never being in ideal physical condition.

If he had the commitment and discipline of Dylan Moore or Finn Maginness he probably would have kicked over 500.

Nobody is saying Harley can't be or won't be a gun, but he isn't in ideal playing shape for an elite player of the competition.
Morphing into a true professional is going to be the difference between Harley being the 25th best player in the league or the absolute best player in the league.

The penny dropped with Hodgey. As long as Harley isn't playing for Geelong or Essendon, I hope it does for him as well.

Who's setting the standards at West Coast for hard work now? IF he comes to Hawthorn and sees how everyone lives to that expectation and seeing Moore, Dambrosio, Amon etc... how hard they all work. In order to fit in with team-mates he would need to work like they do.

But in fairness Simpson said he does work hard at training, but the other stuff away from sessions, he is not in those habbits yet. The Calsher Dear fried chicken scenario. Look at Ginni's instagram and it's a constant stream of good healthy meals and in preseason extra gym sessions with teammates.

No club has 3 first round picks until they do have 3 first round picks.

If we want 3 first round picks we could get them.

Not many of us would like how we get them, but it’s available if we really want

If Jake Stringer had the work ethic of Dylan Moore he's probably have 700 goals and a few brownlows.

I have no doubt he's have been in the conversation as the best player of the last 10 years.

Stringer is a shit person, and very lazy. Reid is neither.

Moore and Maginness didn’t play a good game of footy until they were 21.

The penny dropped for Hodgey after he was 3 seasons in. Reid has already played much better footy than Hodgey did until his 4th season.

Let the media talk shit, but don’t believe their narratives. He’s playing 80% game time primarily in the midfield, that’s as much as any of our mids.

Bloody sick of the media saying we got lucky with all the players we traded for or got via free agency. Maybe they should stop calling it luck and look at how we develop players.
Haven't seen many call it luck to be fair, most have been very positive and complimentary of how well we have identified talent.

The picks are the least of Hawthorns problems.

The salary will be a disaster. If this group of Hawks are very good - and it looks like they might be - then a lot of players are going to want to get paid over the next few years. Wizard, Dear, Day, Newcombe, Mass, Meek, Ward, Mckenzie are all going to be on pretty hefty pay rises for their next contact.

If anyone wants to know what happens when you pay one guy too much - Hird screwing his club as usual - see the bombers after 2000. They lost Hardwick, Caracella, Blumfield and Heffernan and never won another thing.
