List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management for 2025

Usually do one of these before the trade period but was caught-up with other stuff this year so here is my post-trade period update! This is what I have at the moment. As you can see, firstly the list is STACKED in terms of talent (which we already knew) but is also pretty close to being completely full as it is. If what I have is correct, then we have 36 primary list, 4 Cat A and 1 Cat B locked in for next year which leaves us with limited options in terms of drafting next month and SSP/MSD in 2025.

If I had to guess, I'd say we are likely to delist-then-rookie one or both of Gunston and/or Breust for flexibility. Regardless, we can only intake a max of 2 players to primary/Cat A list at the moment plus the option of another Cat B player if we want (which I suspect we will re-sign Bennetts with).

As usual, if you spot any mistakes then please let me know :)

If i could choose any player in the league it would be him.
I know you can never have too many elite ball users but I just don’t think he is the best use of our picks and cap space going forward. Elite player though.

I find it quite disappointing how some have seemed to have forgotten just how good Lewis can be when he's fit. I've mentioned many times here that the main injury which was originally diagnosed as a sprained ACL I feel was the main culprit that lingered for 1-2 years before he eventually ruptured it.

If that knee is fully rehabbed and he's good to go then I reckon he's going to make a few around here remember just how good he is. Just like all the doubters that have bagged Mabs I've been taking receipts 😆

Seriously though if our medicos feel that his knee is structurally sound and he finishes of the season showing his past form then none of us should have no qualms if we offer him a multi year deal. Also worth noting that before his unfortunate injury run he was seen as one of the leaders of our young brigade. Allen or not I think we'd be foolish not to try and retain him.
You can only carry so much of the same type, no issue keeping Lewis but not if we are also going to be bringing in Allen.

What about Butters why he isnt he being mentioned. I would actually prefer him to Reid

I agree I think Butters would change the now and make us instantly even better and would add that goal kicking midfielder with pace to our midfield and change it's dynamic, while Reid who be setting us up for longer term success.

We would be doing the Footy God's work in rescuing either of Zerrett or Petracca.

Zerrett had previously reached out to the club to sound out a potential move. Mind you this was a few years ago now, and he ultimately decided to remain loyal.

If anyone saw his interview on one of those talking head shows this week you'd have noticed how mature, articulate and considered he is. He's just a stand up individual.

The cost for either would be at least the equivalent of the Barrass deal though.

Why would we chase Merrett when we have a young Josh Ward on the rise?

No way are we going to push Lewis out , Oscar would be a great twin towers type pairing with Mitch. Chol as the third tall. Then we only have Dear as next in line. Not much else. Oscar is a FA wch is huge for us.

Don't think you drop Dear could be the best of the lot, it's Lewis or Chol that gets to play at Box Hill I think, remember Lewis hasn't played for so long regularly.

From that list I see 3 potential retirees In Breust, Gunston and Frost.

1 potential FA in Worpel.

4 Players who are out of contract this year that may seek a trade and have some trade value.Jai Serong, Josh Ward, Sam Butler and Seamus Mitchell.

5 Players that will still be in contract and could request a trade. Bailey MacDonald, Henry Hustwaite, James Blank, Ned Reeves and Mitchell Lewis.

1 potential delisting in Jasper Skaife.

For trade and FA targets, Oscar Allen, Pettracca and Harley. Oscar as a FA, could see Skaife being delisted and or Lewis being traded out. The other 2 I think will be harder to obtain and are more likely pipe dreams than reality and would require a huge cut to our depth in trying to acquire them.

Not everyone on them lists will be traded, retire ect. I would rather trade the players that are looking for more opportunity elsewhere, and look at using our draft picks for the draft.

WM is the silk that's missing from our midfield.
I can't think of another current midfielder with his class and productivity, let alone one as young.
Most of them are brutes, athletes, or moderately skilled.
Even Reid, the player I want the most, doesn't have WM's level of disposal quality.

MacKenzie could get there in time, but I think WM has an extra dimension to his play.

After reading all that, my first thought is that perhaps this thread needs to be suspended until October.

I honestly don't know who I'd take if both Reid and Wanganeen-Milera were available. He is a jet and you'd think a litte cheaper to acquire. He's the kind of player that can play across every line.

We don't really need NWM. Not as quick, but Scrimshaw is similarly versatile.

Great pick Sis was but we made horrendous choices in 13, 14 and 15 drafts which set us back a few years
In 2015 Hardwick was a great pick at 44, and Burton got us Wingard. When you threepeat, you don't get high draft picks. And it's really a raffle from picks in the high teens onwards.

We drafted instead Hartung instead of Merrett in 2013, traded our first pick in 2014 for O'Rourke when we were keen on Miller and Maynard, and the piece de resistance was taking Lovell over Dunkley in 2015

Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it.

I mean you can play this game with every club. There will always be hits, misses and sliding door moments.

The important thing is (aside from the crapshoot 2020 draft) we seem to have largely drafted well from 2019 onwards.
