Wow. I'm just blown away. My overwealming feeling is one of pride. Pride of our players and our club. From HK I watched on tv as the players celebrated with their families, Lewis with his little baby, Mitchel's kids fighting. And it was wonderful to see Rats with a smile on his face. You could tell he had a heavy heart but a least we were able to bring some small joy into his life. His story for me was the story of the year, no one should ever have to go through that. There seemed to be an overwhelming sense of satisfaction and happiness for the players on the field and the fans in the stands. I would have love to have been there and shared in the experience, and be partying into the night.
What an accomplishment! Of course it's difficult to compare eras, but surely this club is so far beyond anyone else over this period, we must seriously be considered for greatest ever. Melbourne in the 50s still seem to be ahead statistically, but as most people have pointed out that was in a much smaller competition with no equalization. Brisbane had the big names and Brownlow medalists, but I think they'd struggle against our evenness across the board. Not to mention we've won 4, and they only won 3! Geelong were great, but I don't think they match what we've achieved - reading their board right now is an absolute pleasure.
So stoked for Frawley - he really stepped up in the last 3 games, and as far as I'm concerned he's a Hawk hero. I can't wait to see his future for us. Lake was monumental. I'm 100% convinced now we should re-sign him. Cyril's game was magic, and I had my fingers crossed for him for the Norm Smith - like Frawley he's stuck it up a lot of doubters. And speaking of sticking it up doubters, particularly myself - Shoey. For the last 5 years I've not rated Shoey, watching him struggle in the backline. Well today he was a monster - clunking contested marks left right and centre and even taking that specky. He looked the absolute real deal premiership star. Hodge was gold - what a leader. Perhaps the greatest leader we've ever seen. Smith to has taken the next step to super-star of the game this year, and is a finals specialist.
Well done Hawks and Hawk fans. Enjoy the celebrations. And a big thumbs up too, for all opposition supporters for their gracious comments on our board. Really classy stuff.
