Can someone pls explain to me why hawthorn completely traded out of the best draft in 25 years for picks in what looks like an average to poor draft ?

Depends on your definition of best draft. It’s certainly a deep draft for good talent but calling it the best is clearly wrong. There aren’t any standout players and a lot of the depth is KP which is always hit and miss. It’s probably more likely that later picks will make it more than normal so it’s a good draft for you to load up in especially with Tasmania coming.
For the hawks we’ve already been to the draft and taken many good picks and are moving away from drafting to trade/FA to fill our list holes. We don’t really need more top end picks we need an elite mid a KPF and a KPD. Battle and Barrass potentially solve 1-2 of this problems freeing up someone like Sicily or Weddle to play forward.

We aren’t the pies. We currently hold multiple future firsts and seconds it’s not like we are out of drafting if we find we need to get back in. Barrass will cost blues picks so eagles get the first and second they wanted and we only give up pick 14 which is what we wanted.

So hawks are 36-4 meaning they can only make 2 additions to the senior list, under rules need to make 3 (Rookie upgrades or NDs)

So my understanding is there must be atleast 1 more delisting from the Senior 36 group (Whether theyre agreed to be rookie listed later on or not)

Haven't both signed already? But you could delist and rookie I suppose.
