That's right, and Carrot Top will play for Gold coast and kick 200 goals in a season. It ain't gonna happen.

I'm not dumb enough to see it as a troll. I tend to look at threads that may seem realistic, as realistic, by my standards. You've never heard of a 'Premiership hangover' in your life? I wouldn't care less if its a troll, he has a point and its a good discussion. I personally don't think they'll miss the 8, but majority of people on the first page ruined a perfectly appropriate discussion.

Yep...premiership hangover. We've all heard of it before. The issue is the op said he'd seen signs that Hawthorn was going to have one next year.

Seeing as you think it's a worthwhile discussion, im sure you will point out the signs you've seen that point to the dreaded premiership hangover affecting Hawthorn next year.

This should be good. :)

Re: Hawthorn will have a premiership hangover and won't make the finals in '09

Premiership hangovers. There haven't actually been very many of them in recent history. You've got Adelaide in 1998 (already gone back to back, and won the flag from 5th after losing their first final, which isn't the sort of form-line you can trust); you've got Essendon in 1993 (missed the finals both the year before and the year after - just hit on the right blend of youth and experience, so it sort of came like a bolt from the blue); you've got Collingwood in 1990 (in which, once again, both the previous year's grand finallists fell away before coming back strongly the following year) - and then you've got to go all the way back to 1980.

Since Adelaide ten years ago, eight of the nine premiers finished in the top four after home and away the following year, and seven of the nine played in the Preliminary Final. Six of them played in the Grand Final.

I'd be going on that form line rather than waffling on about "all the signs are there".

Re: Hawthorn will have a premiership hangover and won't make the finals in '09

A hangover is realistically possible, simply because outside of Brisbane, the other premiership sides have had one in the last decade - even if the majority, outside of Port Adelaide in 2005 and West Coast in 2007, the reigning premier has made the next year's grand final.

Hawks will play finals and I would expect them to make the 2009 grand final. As to their opponents....

...the other premiership sides have had one in the last decade - even if the majority...the reigning premier has made the next year's GF....

I cannot make any sense of that. Are you saying that despite the reigning premier making the next GF, it's still a hangover?

It is, because you haven't successfully defended your premiership. The worse you finish, the worse it gets.

not going back to back isn't a premiership hangover. it basically means that you allow your performance to come back to the pack and finish low down the ladder. for example, geelong didn't suffer a premiership hangover. the played good football and made the grand final. the fact that they didn't successfully defend their title is not related to the success of the year before...

Re: Hawthorn will have a premiership hangover and won't make the finals in '09

Why is everyone getting sucked in.

Hawks will be in top 4 for sure, probably even top 2. But i think the cats will come out burning from the GF loss and probably win the flag. noone else will come close to these 2 teams i dont think.

Here, read my post again... s l o w e r :) I've even put in bold and underlined the important part for you...

I also said I agreed wth this post.

That is my opinion. Whats your response? Why DON'T you think they'll suffer a hangover?

Pies will finish last in 2009. All the signs are there. What? You disagree? Why DON'T you think they'll finish last then?

The problem with this ridiculous Bay 13-esque post mate is that this tool has made a prediction with absolutely nothing to back it up. The onus is on him to support his statement, no matter how ridiculous it sounds. You can't just throw something out there and say, prove me wrong then.

Everyone thinks Im defending the OP! I'm not, and I agree that he needs to back it up with some information, but just have a skim through the first page. Thats what annoys me about BF. This thread has potential for some appropriate for and against arguments, but was and is bein ruined by sarcasm and team-bashing.

Again, I don't get why some people are responding to me while I defend myself, I'm just here to read some good arguments on the topic of this thread. I've already stated my opinion.

Re: Hawthorn will have a premiership hangover and won't make the finals in '09

I for one would not be surprised if Hawthorn won back to back.

They have the genius Jeanette Clarkson on their side.

Who can beat them?

Re: Hawthorn will have a premiership hangover and won't make the finals in '09

Not sure what your problems are.

Who would have thought Adelaide would have missed the finals in 99 after winning the flag two years in a row? or Essendon in '93?

Next year it's Hawthorn's turn, it happens, all the signs are there.

ARE U A ******....all the signs are there...they just won the flag some people on bf know nothing about football
