I gota say I love what they've done this year.

Seriously undersized compared to others and yet they're holding up pretty well.

Since Geelong when they've been called out they're only averaging 65 points conceded all be it against pretty ordinary opponents.

I think the key ways they've produced this is by utilizing the fact that they are small and relying on 3rd man ups to get the ball to ground then doing the rest of the job off the ground. And then being able to cope well under pressure and get the swift handballs out to the good kicks of Guerra and Suckling. I know I'm probably seeing this a bit one-eyed but this was one of the factors that some people didn't rate Hawthorn near Geelong or Collingwood and think they deserve some recognition for their work.

Any other neutral supporters have the same thought?

Schoenmakers is showing some great signs, but it's a long season yet.

Gibson has been fantastic.

Hodge getting down there to help goes a LONG way to us restricting opposition scoring shots.

Just an interesting point about our backline today. Usually in Hawthorns BOGs you see a lot of mids and forwards. Below is what the HUN had for Hawthorns best today

Best: Hawthorn: Hodge, Guerra, Birchall, Gibson, Mitchell, Lewis, Murphy, Franklin.

Hodge, Guerra, Birchall, Gibson & Murphy. Our backline will cope ok ;)

Probably cos they played chip to chip for half the game.

Tempo football & controlling the play is a good ploy against the Dogs. When the ball did go into the Dogs forward line quickly, our backs got fists on a lot of high balls and won the aerial contests.

People love to spurt rubbish about how our backline is a weakness. Hell even the commentators go on about it. We've conceded only 35 more points than Collingwood.

Bottom line is that how your backline performs is largely predicated by the performance of your midfield.

I'm not sold on the Hawks, but at least this year they are actually winning. It's been a bit ridiculous how the club spent 2009 and 2010 talking themselves up. I'm looking forward to whenever the Pies meet them, as I think that our forwards will take their defence to the cleaners. Their only answer to Cloke will be three flying with him, which will leave the likes of Krakouer, Didak and Sidebottom to wreak havoc once the ball hits the ground.

Cloke isn't that good. Shoey to take him to the cleaners (again)

Pfft, if collingwood were going to smash us it would have been last year round 22. We were a shadow of the team we are now. And clone taking us to the cleaners good luck with that. You and the rest of this board know we always beat you. Moron.

cloke? the forward line isnt collingwoods strength, its the gameplan, defence and midfield in that order. Cloke and Dawes are merely cogs in the works nothing more nothing less. If you have actually watched any hawks games the backman kill the contest, gain possesion and than maintain it, its worked 7 out of 9 games so far, do you really think there just going to go up willy nilly and allow the pies crumbers to run riot? kidding yourself mate they will have coverage in case that happens probably suckling, guerra or birchall. Not only that we actually have speed in the backline that can nullify the krakouers and didaks.

spot on, we are winning games playing half a game of footy and these idiots are trying to tell us they dont rate us?, they will shut up if we beat geelong and the pies in the next few weeks.
