Senior footy prediction: must say this is based on clubs social media posts which some clubs are better at than others. Also based on local water cooler talk.
Top 3 in no particular order:
HB: Get Simon close back but no other serious recruits, there best 5 players are older again with a fare drop off after that. Similar to last year. Up to the rest of the comp to rise to there standard.
NQ: picked up some good players but no better than the talent they already have. On paper they were more talented than HB last year. How do they maximise that talent? If they can maximise that then they should win it. They’ve got guns everywhere.
Laharum: well coached. Last year maximised the talent from the list they had which was a bunch of hard nosed types and were hard to play against. Have picked up a few classy players in the offseason. Impressive how quickly this club has been able to turn things round.
Next two: not far off top 3 at all.
Pimp: will be similar to last year? Lost one or two. Gained one or two? Will be better under guyro in second year. They are quite consistent across the field but just lack that absolute 1-2 a graders that the top teams have.
Swifts: well coached and were very close last year fighting against nq to be the challenger to HB. Handy midfield pickup in meantell but you simply can’t replace sommers. They’ve tried to by bringing in Motton but sommers is irreplaceable.
Next four: will be actually really good teams and be not far off the top 5 sides, just not quite good enough.
Rup: a bunch of key senior players left at end of last year and things were dire but weve managed to rally and bring in a bunch of recruits. Not all will play every week but should be competitive this year.
TL: weren’t too bad last year and have recruited quite well. This is going off talk as there social media pages aren’t public. Could be better or worse than this prediction
Edenhope: lost a high number of there best senior players. Then looking at socials they’ve just gone and paid big bucks to a bunch of mercenaries to top them up. Those players might assist with the win/ loss ratio this year but it’s very shortsighted.
KLU: seem like a good club with a good culture but just battle with the tyranny of distance. They have picked up some high quality recruits which will give them a big boost but the drop off from there top players is steep.
Bottom 2:
Natimuk: coming from a bad year last year have recruited a lot of depth players. Struggled for reserves numbers last year so they had to start somewhere. Not sure why they reappointed there senior coach but regardless should be more competitive in 2025
Kalkee: lost a few of there top senior players. Hard to say if any recruits as no active socials. Senior team will be average this year but they will be ok. Proud club, swings and roundabouts.
Junior footy
Who knows what will happen. There doesn’t seem to be enough juniors to cover both leagues. Not just footy either. Lots of clubs can’t put all netball teams on the court.
Not against the old Sunday league but how would clubs cope without there junior grades if that change happened?
Most clubs depend on the juniors coming through to play reserves/ seniors. Without this clubs must pay recruits and this is now long out of control. Kids that have never played a senior game expect $300-$400 a game and they get it!
