Just riding the progress wave really. I started out trying to get un-slow and un-weak for footy, as the level I play at aerobic capacity isn't worth much, but forgot how much I love gym work.

Ideally I'd like to hit my old personal bests for deadlifts (180kg) and bench press (127.5kg) but we'll see if that's achievable while playing sport.
Within 5% now.

Have joined a new local team on the east side. Hint: their senior mens has heaps of ex - north players

This is going to be their first senior women’s team, so really exciting!!!

First few weeks back at footy and I'm definitely feeling both quicker and stronger which is awesome. Tackles are sticking, I'm able to move through tackles, and I'm able to pounce in on ground ball gets heaps better.

But it's also come at the expense of my cruising pace and aerobic fitness. Still feel like this suits my game better than being slow and fit.

Anyone have enough knowledge of what a 13yo and 15yo should be doing in the offseason to offer an insight. Weights and running. Both are busting their butt to play Div 1 next year.

I'm afraid I'm holding them back through lack of knowledge/understanding. We're currently going to the gym and gains are being made BUT are they helping the ultimate goal??

I would say hook them up with a s&c coach or an athletic performance gym with a high performance program. When I was that age I went to a school which was well known for their soccer program, it helped my soccer but I do regret not going to an APS level / maribyrnong sports academy high school. But was luckily enough picked in my school to be in a high performance program where you’d to training and gym in school time (yay to missing classes)

They are still pretty young, if they are making gains and reaching their own set goals then just let them be. I’m sure they are on social media watching prime train and train stop. They’ll figure out what works for them.

Hire one of these people if you're really keen. The first is American but the other two are Aussie and I think take clients.

Otherwise it really depends on their athletic profile. For me speed is and always will be king, though, so I'd err on the side of speed, strength and power while they're young and let the running come as they build up fitness during pre season.

I can give a few tips but would pale in comparison to some of the guys I mentioned.

Ive just extended my JJ’s program he’s the best

3 weeks of my first 4 week sprinting block completed.

40m time: 8.13 --> 6.82
20m time: 4.34 --> 3.81

Happy with over 15% improvement so early in my off season.

To put in perspective just how slow I had gotten when I started out, I ran a 3.04 20m in my 18s year. Injuries, age, and just not focusing on max sprints will do that to ya.
Ran a hand timed 3.03 today! Not far off now

That's great going. I'd love to do some speed training again. Just need to find an achilles tendon donor.

Must be very hard to manually time it accurately?
Yep and manual is always quicker than electronic too, so I'm not confident to say it's an all time PB. I have another person time me, but I've kept the conditions the same since day 1 of this little project, so there's ~30% improvement regardless. It's probably equivalent to an electronically timed 3.2s or thereabouts I think.

Anyone else doing Park runs? I’ve gotten back in to it today after a 2 year absence. Great vibe, 400 runners and walkers at my local one. 5km timed events with volunteers, results recorded, etc with a huge variety of paces, some folks even take an hour or a bit more.

Pretty close, the standard is .24 added to manual to get the electronic time when manually timing a race. Assumes going off the smoke from a gun.

3.27. Good running.

One of my favourite things to do is to find a park run away from home. Test yourself on a new course and hopefully make the fastest list. Some people go for the alphabet of park runs - get every race name from A to Z.

Okkkk so I have decided to change gyms because the gym that I have been going to is literally fake💀🤣 (replica machines etc.)

this new gym is soooo nice and they have a reformer Pilates area which I am going to have in my routine, aiming to complete it every Friday.

These REAL cable machines have humbled me 💀 like I never struggled doing 10kg pallof press but all of a sudden it felt like I’d never did a minute of core in my life 💀💀 and everything just felt a little heavier.

Have they given you an onsite induction ? It's full on. One of our staff uses it for bulging disc benefit.
Nah they didn’t, because you can enter the gym via your phone and no one was at the counter lmfao.

But I have done a few mat Pilates sessions before and I have been absolutely crippled the next day so just wanna dip my toe in it
