Lol yeah you can sub out the jumps for hip thrusts/ glute bridges / RDLs
I was doing fine right up until "Landmines Reverse Nordic" and I wistfully remembered a girl I met many years ago.

That's a serious lift man. Well done

That's the spirit rig pics are in December remember :)The BF beefcake covid-calendar to be released for January. I do prefer the gym but working out at home during covid lockdowns is might fine. Whack on some tunes and remember to track your gains or losses, it's actually important.

I've upped all my weights by five kilo's recently and I'm boody proud of that.
You're a hillbilly aren't you TAO? If no gym, chuck a stack of bricks / rocks / logs in a wheelbarrow and push it up a hill x many reps. Full body workout.

I don't usually hit the gym but have done a bit of rehab / prevention lately - deadlifts, etc - and was still in the muscle recruitment phase where you just keep on adding 5 or 10 kegs to the bar every week. (Started pretty conservatively.) Are you saying you eventually get to a point where it's hard to keep increasing the weight? That sucks. Slightly seriously though, the biggest restriction on my deads was grip strength. I'd do sets of two types and would have to start rushing them before the fingers gave out.

Same! That’s why I brought straps lol

Tried using the hook grip technique?

Good job.

My best lift for barbell bench press was 137.5kg. That was...terrifying, even with a spotter. You'll be fine with those weights, just try to pull up a rep short if you're concerned.

My perception of you is that you're not a big guy so that is a serious lift. Back in the day, I used to work up to two sets of four at 140kg but I am a pretty big guy.

Thanks mate. I was in the U77kg class, and at about 5'10, so not a big guy, although I used to hover at high 80s to low 90s when bulking. It worked out about a tick over 1.8x bodyweight, and over 1000lbs across the three lifts which I was happy enough with.

Brisbane teacher so in recent lockdown.

Sons 9 and 11 years old. I'm 44 and very unfit. Very lucky to not be morbidly obese due to my love of scotch and hot chips.

Starting with little baby steps. This week I've done 4 jogs with son #11. Only like around the block. 1.27km but super proud I didn't stop once haha too slow but probably too fast for me Heart rate above 90 30 min later. Add in push ups of 2 x 20 and I guess it's a start.

Can't admit this to friends cause it's a little pathetic but here is safer for some reason!

Good luck everyone!!!

Good stuff, well done.

Have to admit the more I've been doing in recent weeks the less I even want to drink. It feels like a waste of good work and I ruins the buzz from the exercise. I might throw a couple of beers down whilst watching the boys and that's about it. Keep it up.

It's an awesome start mate, well done. You have 2 young blokes with you that should spur you on. Good things take time mate, keep banging out those laps, do 2, run 1 and then walk 1. Do 3 x 10 push ups, or 12 :) Cheer yourself, cheer your boys, hi 5's make it fun, as well as recognise the effort. Go well, be well, live longer :)

Well Done! You Gots to start somewhere, sometime and there is no better time than now. Small steps. Just build ever so slowly. Run that little bit further next time. Or run that little bit faster. It’s just time. There is nothing like achievement. Aim for small gains. Small wins. In time your fitness will improve and you’ll be in a better position than you’re in now. Good Luck. Keep at it. 👍

Yeah I can only echo what others have said KillaKanga. Everyone has to start somewhere. It's very cliche but the ads that have been on during the Olympics have really struck a chord with me - "you don't have to be amazing to start, but you do have to start to be amazing". Every step is one in the right direction. Also it's great that you feel like you can walk this board through your journey :thumbsu:

I do apologise in advance if I may sidetrack this thread but does anybody have any Gym stories relating to idiotic attempts at lifting weight? Well I have a story.

One night I was at the local Gym when some dude waltz in who I had never seen before. There weren’t many in the Gym. This dude was a regular looking guy. He looked like someone in their late 30’s early 40’s. He had a bit of a gut. Didn’t look all that muscular. Just a regular Joe working out. No dramas with that. But shit what I saw next from this guy as he did some lame arse stretches in a Squat Rack astounded me.

So he sets up the bar to do Squats. He then proceeds to place one 25kg plate on one side and one 25kg plate on the other side. I’m thinking to my self for a first set that looks a little heavy for a dude with his physique but whatever.

He then continues to whack on 25kg plates onto the bar without doing a set. He places a 2nd lot on each side. Then he places a 3rd lot on each side. At this stage I’m thinking WTF? Anyway he continues whacking on plates. He finishes with 4 x 25kg plates on each side. Including the bar it’s 220kg all up.

Anyways by this stage I’m thinking if that this campaigner thinks he’s gonna Squat this weight he has rocks in his head. Well he gets his shoulders under the bar. It ain’t low bar technique. It’s high bar that he is about to give a crack. Not that it would matter with the weight on his back. It’s too much!

So now he pushes up. He gets the bar of the rack. He slowly takes baby steps away from the rack. I’m now looking around the Gym to see if anybody else is seeing this shit. There is one other guy and his face is giving the same WTF is this idiot trying to do vibe like mine. Well I’m thinking if this dude squating decides to bend the knees he ain’t coming back up. Well he makes some token body movement like he has done a squat and then manages to somehow put the bar back on the rack without necking himself. And he was pleased with himself. He then proceeds to remove the weights.

I go over to the other guy who had witnessed this nonsense. We just can’t believe it. Both of us thought that this clown was just about to do himself a mischief.

Well the moral of the story is if you decide to start up at a Gym and get a Membership when this Covid Shit is over, it is not the amount of weight you lift that is important but the technique you utilise in lifting a reasonable weight. A sensible weight that will encourage muscle growth and increase strength. What that Bozo trying to squat 220kg achieved was nothing. :stern look

Yes lol just your regular 30 something year old ego lifter who loves to look at his own reflection more than working out, I can’t remember what he had on the bar but I remember him putting on 25kg on each side. He takes a step back and then you hear “boom boom” and all the plates fall off each side and everyone is just looking at him lol

Mate, I'll go with what rickety said - do the walk - runs to get your total distance up. You could walk 500 / run 500 x 5 to get to 5k. (Or less run, more walk if you need to at first.) As you get fitter you can increase the amount of running, decrease the walking.

If anyone is interested, I have 4 KVLR Ebook programs.

- bulletproofing the knees
- bulletproofing the hamstrings
- bulletproofing the groin, hips and lower back
- bulletproofing the ankles

They all aim to gain mobility and strength to eliminate chances of injury.

The programs run in 4 phases, so if you’re interested pm me

1st off - wow, thanks for the support everyone!!! Silly how it works but set off for a 4km walk with the missus this morning knowing I've got to keep with this up. Support here really does spur me on to keep on the little gains. Sore right shin so no jogging today.

Me being motivated has my sons wanting to go out and get their own PBs and track their progress. They love their sport but have never had the urge to run/gain etc. This can only help their footy/cricket.

And Zondor I'm still chuckling at that story. Well told and completely believable haha
