Tonight confirmed what i had thought for a while. He is not a defender, and IMHO, never will be. He is far too soft at the contest and often goes third man up without even getting close to a spoil.

He is a half decent mark, with an ordinary tank, he will not make it in forward half.

GONE

He's showing improvement and I think he may be able to make it but you're correct about his spoils. When you leave your man to be the 2nd or 3rd man up you have to go hard and thump the bloody thing.

You kidding me? He looked far better tonight than any other time I've seen him this year, and he played mainly in the forward line! That's where he needs to be! Stick him up there for a season and I assure you he'll develop right alongside Patty as the new Hall-O'laughlin combo.

Forward or back, I think he's been great this year. I prefer him in the forward line and IMO that's where his future lies (especially with our ageing forward line) but I get the feeling that the club wants to groom him as an old fashioned 'utility'. Not unlike Teddy and Mal and Bolton and Goodes and...

He is not a good enough lead (speed off the mark) and, has not got anywhere near the tank to make it forward.

He can take a mark, that is it.

Not good enough in todays footy

Er, he's had less than fifty games experience, and you expect him to have a great tank? Just because he's not a crummer like Vesz doesn't mean he isn't as good. Vesz has a small tank too at the moment. Give them both a year or so more and they'll both be legends.

That's where he usually takes them...check the tapes!

LMAO, bedders, do you want to jump in here ?

50 GAMES !!!!!

Er, that is plenty, played a few in the magoos too ? maybe ?

Sure he is not yet R Harvey (3 votes) but he has been given plenty of latitude and experience. He was very very very poor in defence today, and is simply not, a talented enough or quick enough player, to go forward.

I agree, 50 is plenty - Malceski is proof of that - which is why I said he has LESS than 50 games. If he isn't good by then, by all means delist him. Remember I was as much anti-Grundy last week as the next guy. The reason I was so anti-him was the fact he was being played in a position he can't play in, and wasn't giving anything to the team, and if that was all there was for him, there was no point.

IMHO he is filling a spot, not his fault.

He averages 9 possies (3.8 marks) a game.

The tools who suggest he can take a mark on the lead, have no evidence whatsoever, in the highest level.

Sad, but true.

I have to agree with Duds in that he doesn't look a likely forward but I have to disagree about him not becoming a decent defender (and I suspect Roos and co see his future down back). I think his current deficiencies as a defender (poor spoiling, poor decision making etc) are all things that can be improved in time. He won't be a star but it's too early to write him off.

Agree (well sort of) with your disagreement, trouble is, we have been grooming him in that possie in Canberra..and he still does not get when to go up and spoil hard, or stay down.

Holds back, instinct, same as LRT jumps in with his head leading, instinct.

You either have it, or you dont.

I find it hard to believe that someone that was recruited as a forward, is not seen as a forward in some supporters eyes. It's lucky that we are not the coaches of our team, 'cos in reality, we would have no f...ing idea would we?

It is fortunate that we have a good sample of supporters on BF that post their POTY votes each week, which would suggest that, yes, he is performing in any position that he plays (and I admit that's mainly been down back...probably 'cos that's where the ball's been;)).

Thank god we're all on the same team:D

Agreed,

He may be good, or he may not, he may be fit, or maybe not.

Hard to say really.

Oh I agree, he's not our next Brownlow candidate - that's probably Moore - but he's still a decent player, much better than LRT could be, and LRT's had a fair go.

If the coaching staff saw Grundy as a forward I would have thought that with Playfair, Davis and O'Loughlin out of the team that they probably would have given him a shot up there rather than in defence where to be honest we haven't really had any injury concerns this year apart from Leo missing a couple of weeks. I've seen some good signs from him down back but unfortunately nothing to get me excited when he's been played up forward on the rare occasion. Lets not forget that Leo Barry was also originally recruited as a forward.

Of course I could be wrong.... I am after all, just some bloke behind a keyboard.

As much as i like Moore i personally think that he will never get a Brwonlow. I personally think out of our young guys Veszpremi and Bird will be the most likel to challenge for a brownlow one day.

I have to disagree. I see him in the same mould as Kirk, but with the kind of build of an Ablett, plus as he's shown he can kick quiite a lot of goals. I just think with a better pre-season - now that he has a solid spot in the team - he could build up some real fitness and become a true star.

We're still talking about Grundy here right?

EDIT - Sorry, just realised you were talking about Moore.

I think that Bird will be the best of the lot given that Jack and Moore both have about 3 years head start on him.
