Heath Shaw's smother

Hey Williamc99, I apologise for having a cheap shot at you a day or two ago. I know I said this to you privately, but I would like to acknowledge it publicly as well. You seem a thoroughly decent and nice person, particularly given the hurdles you have to jump on a daily basis. I love your honesty and your willingness to broach personal subjects. What you have said helps me to have more sympathy for Heath Shaw and the difficulties he has controlling his impulses without the assistance of medication. As you said in a recent post, he bleeds black and white and is a much appreciated personality around the club. It will be a sad day if we lose him to another club. Cheers mate. I look forward to reading all your future posts.:):rainbow:

I was in the Westpac centre a couple of years back paying my membership subs (through the old shop to the membership counter out back). A bunch of players just hanging about (probably after a gym session).
Clokey was sitting on the membership counter freely swinging his legs whist watching me pay for membership.
Other players were just standing around talking, whilst Heater was running around dribbling a soccer ball, pretending to 'beat' the other players, whist commentating to himself ("I got ya there" "I chopped ya then").
An elderly gent in black & white tracksuit walked in (not sure who) & Heater stopped dead & was quiet....then as soon as he left Heater fired up again. Was quite amusing to my GF & I, the players didn't mind, even though he was acting like a naughty school boy. I knew that he suffered from some kind of disorder however wasn't sure exactly.
Tks for the insight guys. It does clarify some of Heaters behaviour.
I hope he stays (am a huge fan).

Another thing I have noticed amongst people who suffer from ADD/ADHD

Question - aren't they completely different things.... Ones to do with hyperactivity and the other to do with attention span (putting it very simply?)

Not trying to be a smart ass just genuinely dont know - Remember a kid in class who had ADD had to take dexamphetamine's which doesn't seem like a thing you'd give to a hyperactive kid...

ADD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder and ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD is worse because you get all the effects with ADD plus hyperactivity issues and slightly more. I've also got ODD but that's not an issue here. I used to take Dexamphetamines but they were absolutely useless and did nothing to actually help me.

Basically ADHD is pretty much ADD but other symptoms on top of it making it slightly worse. :)

I am also willing to admit that I was too hasty in considering trading Heater. He is a frustrating bugger but he is Collingwood through and through. I hope he stays.

Don't let the ADHD be used as a cop out. I can say this as I also have it. I was on ritalin until the age of 17. But I am as calm as ever and dont even figit anymore. Yes it may be harder to grow up but that by no means now at the age of 27 that he shouldn't of matured and think rationale in a heated situation.

I still play footy now, obviously not at AFL level but at a reasonable level. Everyone knows that you cant grab someone by the troat and do it infront of an umpire. It is no excuse for chucking a ball in someones face. Or making a scene and yelling at your team mates on the field when you make a mistake. Behind closed doors in the inner sanctum is the place to vent out those frustrations, not during a game of footy.

Well maybe he was never medicated? The drugs that we have all used do actually make a difference but I know some people that were never medicated and you can really tell. No, ADHD can't be used solely as an excuse but it does explain a lot about somebodies behaviour and you can definitely tell the difference between someone who has been medicated and somebody who hasn't. You also must remember that everybody is different. :)
