v Essendon 1995 - exciting fast game. The player formerly known as David King marking after the siren (again), pumping the fist and nailing the shot from 50. Highlight of the game was a long running Mick Martyn shepherd blocking Hird from getting to Carey... who passed to Stevens who finished off hitting the post.

Does anyone remember Anthony Rock taking a dive that put Hayden Ballantyne's one last week to shame during that game?

If memory serves correct (I was 11 at the time) Essendon had kicked a few early goals in the last quarter and were just in front/behind. The ball was about to be cleared when Alessio lifted his arm (nowhere near Rock), Rocky threw his head back and landed on his back at the top of the goalsquare, the umpire didn't really see it but thought Alessio had whacked him and paid the free to give us our first goal for the quarter. From then on we dominated proceedings and won comfortably.

The replay on the big screen showed exactly what had happened and Essendon fans went beserk.

Simmos last game was on a friday night and could beone of the last pieces if doing it in a timeline sense.
Simmo's soccer kick from the boundary to set up a goal is worthy of inclusion!

I also seem to recall a Friday night game vs Hawks at the G (maybe 01? 02?) when Harvey had done his shoulder, and the Dawks spent the night trying to smash him, and he got the match-winning goal.

Yep! I was there. Most electric atmosphere I've ever been in. The anthem prior to the bounce and the roar after was amazing. Carey dominating the 2nd Quarter silencing the Tiger army was also bloody good.

He didn't silence the feral Richmond supporters who were sitting behind me. They roundly abused him everytime he was involved in play. They weren't impressed when I suggested they'd love him in their team.

I remember a late-season game against the Tigers at the G ; Richo had 2 bites at a mark, failed to control it, the ump called play on, and a feral behind me yelled out "You would have paid it if he was Carey!!!!"

I couldn't resist pointing out, "If he was Carey, he would have held it". :)

great work, you must be at Uni.

Highlight for me having been to most of these games since 1987 was the night Horse kicked 12.

I remember Mitchell for the Tigers kicking the first goal, we kicked the next 10 or so.

Celebrated hard and woke up the next morning in Lygon St on a car bonnet. Not sure if it was a hit and run or if I was looking for some warmth from the engine

sticks

long live the King

There's one classic that I think has been missed; the 1996 Friday night game against Carlton. We hadn't been able to get close to the Blues in the previous couple of years, but clobbered the reigning premier by around ten goals that night.

It was a beauty, and I remember the "Fridge" bagging a monster torpedo goal at one point.

It was the night where I really came to feel that we were set to atone for the heartbreak of the previous three seasons.

The was the day after the merger with Fitzroy was scuttled.

Huge game, glad it was brought up. It was also the week I got what was going on in my new home state and called the club to join as a member for the first time.

not sure if it was mentioned previously but there was a friday night game in about round 19 of 1995 against richmond leading up to the finals (one of simmo's first games). we were about 38 points down early in the third quarter and eventually won by a couple of goal. carey and allison kicked 5 each and longmire 3 (after starting in defence if i recall correctly). we then beat the tigers again in the first final of that year, also on a friday night. great memories !
