I'll be filthy if the club settle this. This must go to court and people must be put on the stand.

Unless there are a bunch of lawyers already on retainer who are sitting around twiddling their thumbs doing absolutely nothing else, the amount of time and effort required to build a defense, obtain and pore over evidence and then the time required to actually see out the process to resolution via court dates... it will all cost the club 10x a settlement.

Saw it via an employee taking employer to Fairwork for unfair dismissal. The employee was a clown and there was a mountain of evidence against him but the employer really only has a few choices: hire lawyers (at a cost of thousands and thousands billed), assign in-house counsel (thereby taking highly paid employees away from internal projects), or settle for a relatively small amount to just make it go away. The settlement couldn't come quick enough.

I don't want to judge him because I don't know exactly how he feels or the effect of events on his mental state, but he will get a payday.

What happened to the inquiry that Collingwood commissioned into the claims of racism? Always figured there was money involved. Incidentally, he also has a Facebook page on which you can comment, as I did some time ago. He's one premiership player I intend to erase from my memory of the game.

If this was just against Collingwood, I could see the club doing this, but he's sueing the AFL as well, and it would be a terrible look for the AFL to not even try and defend themselves. AFL not winning this case would a terrible look for them and huge amount of damage to the league. I hope the club and the AFL slam down on him hard and put him in his place.

Lumumbas a flog.
Kirby
Or anyone else how far back does loss of enjoyment have to date back for a civil matter?
I thought there was a state of.time.to.this thing.
Anyways peace and love brothers.

Seriously, he’s gone to the trouble of suing the club and the league, but can’t actually provide any specific examples of where he was vilified in the documentation?

Is this flog for real?

Too High on Drugs probably

There will be no winners from this legal action, only losers.

Lawyers will win big time.

Why is that not believable? You think it's also impossible that black people give their friends permission to use offensive terms?
Because calling somebody “chimp” who is black is atmospheric level offensive. Scott is clearly one of the more intelligent and considered captains we’ve had at the Pies. His career has been completely perfect with zero controversy. Ever.
There is zero chance permission or no permission he would ever call another player under him such a loaded word.

Nobody at the Captain level and especially Scott would be that stupid.

You would think after visiting his home country The Congo and witnessing someone get shot and all the poverty there that he would be grateful that he was adopted into a loving family rather than being bought up in the congo, so ungrateful. Anyway, it has to be weed related

Unfortunately in this current climate I expect both the AFL and Collingwood to fold faster than a house of cards, whatever the allegations or validity of his claim.

Harry and his lawyers will be well aware of this.

But even if they do agree to his settlement, don't expect this to be the end of it. Harry will almost definitely re-appear with new claims as soon as the spotlight has dimmed for too long.

So sad that it’s come to this. Loved him as a player, and was a fan favourite amongst supporters for years.
It’s hard to see a club premiership hero in this situation where he feels the need to sue. Just sad he is unwilling to sit down with the club and reconcile/resolve peacefully and respectfully, despite the club and individuals reaching out over the years.

I guess he won’t be going to the 2010 reunion when they are allowed to have it.
I really do hope the two parties can be reunited again one day.

So you decide what black people should be offended by?

Pretty sure Lumumba was an AFL cultural ambassador. If there were issues, would have thought he‘d have been empowered to do something about them?

From my memory of the time, I thought the club were outwardly supportive of Lumumba. They gave him a platform to push his causes, they celebrated his thinking chair, they helped promote his brother’s band, they were sensitive to his name change, he was intro’ed to the Dalai Lama.

Collingwood hasn’t always handled things well, but from my memory of the time I couldn’t fault anything with the way Lumumba was publicly handled. And that was at a time when everybody was looking for excuses to bash the club over the failure of the succession plan.

Of course we don’t know what happened behind closed doors ... but for somebody who was empowered at the time (AFL cultural ambassador) and was clearly very assertive when it came to dishing out their opinions about the ills of the world ...

... his claims now seem a tad incongruous.

No, it's a stupid and offensive point.

Individuals who are black are allowed to choose what they are and are not offended by, some random person doesn't get to choose what has to be offensive for them. It's so condescending it's painful.

You're right. Offense is an entitlement, but offense alone don't invalidate someone else's behavior, speech or otherwise conduct. The offense someone else takes doesn't change the intent that caused it.

Long story short, just because someone is offended doesn't mean there was offense intended or warranted. It's entirely subjective and fortunately we have a system where a court will decide if the offense causing conduct was in fact unacceptable.
