adam goodes is a flog of the highest order who;

- was gifted a brownlow medal
- was a diving campaigner
- a cheat shot artist who hit blokes when they weren't looking

go on, tell me i'm incorrect
You're incorrect.

Fantastic player at his best but not even close to being the best player of his generation.

Not even the best player to play for Sydney in his generation.

Not even the best indigenous player to play for Sydney in his generation.

So why would you have him among the handful of players of all time to rate a statue?

As good an illustration as any of how totally out of control this subject has become.
What a CV he has.

Dual brownlow medallist, only AFL footballer every to be awarded the prestigious title of Australian of the Year, 2 premierships, 3 x B&F, 3 x leading Sydney goal kicker, Indigenous team of the century, 4 times AA, 3 time Australian representative, 372 games, brother of Brett Goodes who does fantastic work in Western Victoria, and I'm pretty sure Adam saved a hessian sack full of puppies from a burning factory on more than one occasion.

Come to think of it, when you list his achievements one statue probably isn't enough.

I suppose you object to Winmar's statue as well then, given Winmar has 100 games, 2 Brownlows, 2 premmies, 1 B&F, 2 AAs and 1 AOTY less than Goodsey

i did say A Brownlow medal - singular....

he sure was a good player. But still a total flog.
Must have been all those off-site injections he had, behind the back of the team doctor.

Oh wait...

Why would I?

Nice try at the snide implication tactic though.

Nicky Winmar was the centre of a landmark change in not only football culture, but Australian society in general.

And the thing about landmark moments is they only happen once. A clumsy rerun 25 years later, at a time when the issue has changed dramatically for the better (in some part as a direct result of the defining moment) lacks horsepower.

And - if it were necessary for football to raise another statue of an indigenous footballer based on race relations rather than football achievement, Michael Long is the length of the Flemington straight ahead of Goodes. Or even 650km ahead.

Services to helping the perpetually offended keep the offended meter safely in the red shouldn't be a qualifying factor.

i just don't get these people that are of two different parents and aboriginals are undoubtably the best at it,why doesn't adam goodes say he is scottish decent instead of aboriginal?
for all its worth i regards adam goodes as an all time great in the afl.

His middle name is Roy

Doesn’t get more Scottish than that

We’ll .... maybe Hamish ... or Scott.....

The stupid thing with all this is that we have come such a long way with racism. There are obviously still racist flogs about, but nothing like it used to be and especially in Australia. I mean, you only have to look at other countries history on racism to work that out, and not even a long history, the Chinese have been going to town on Mack Horton with the racism current day. In Australia, if you are at a footy or cricket match or the like and you say something racist, you'll be jumped on...and that's a great thing. Once upon a time you wouldn't have been, the comment might have been met with laughter or support or some disdain. Now, you'll be fairly whacked. BUT the triggering has gone up a million fold and we are seriously going to end up with this wedge, almost like happened in the Apartheid days in South Africa. Young kids are prefacing everything these days with "Without sounding racist..." before they talk about a 'black' cat or a 'white' bird!!! Everybody needs to cool their jets a bit, understand that there will always be some racists flogs, but they are a minority, and that the vast majority of Australians hate and denounce racism. Bit of a thicker skin and hold your heads up high. Australians in general on the whole are not racist and if you disagree then GAGF.

I read this as,

'Hey, we're better than we used to be and better than other countries, so we don't need to do anything more!'

Australia is relatively free from poverty and tends to have less drivers of racism.

Any sauce with that claim?

ACOSS Report 2016:

"In 2016, ACOSS released a new report revealing that poverty is growing in Australia, with an estimated 2.9 million people or 13.3% of all people living below the internationally accepted poverty line. It also estimated that there are 731,000 children in poverty, and 17.5% of children under the age of 15 are in poverty.

Poverty levels for Australians living on the pension (>65 years of age) is an absolute skandal in this kountry - one of the wealthiest and luckiest nations on the planet.

Would you say that Australia is ethnically and culturally diverse compared to other nations in the world???

Would you say the OECD is representative of the worlds poverty? No I thought not

So you feel warm and cosy inside because Australia has less poverty than Bangladesh? Race to the bottom ?

So what were your thoughts on ethnic and cultural diversity in Australia again? How does Australia stack up with the rest of the world?

And as far as racism goes, Australia punches well above its weight.

Warm and cosy? Im just telling how it is. Were there a bit more poverty around, youd have all the real racist problems the rest of the world has. Tangible problems not symbolism

Just to be clear, I made a comment. Im not interesting in following you around in your symbolic wanderings

Australia does have its racist personality though, but some are looking for it where it isnt. Its the modern obsession with triggering.
So dont ask me for something ‘again’ when i didnt say anything the first time

Life expectancy ten years below the avg, ridiculously high rates of poverty, disease and incarceration are all just symbolism? I bet our indigenous community wake every day thinking “thank f@ck I don’t face any tangible issues today!”

Gee life is good on the comfy white high horse isn’t it!
