Quiet game, still was better than what Davis dished out in his last couple.
Needs to adjust to the pace of the AFL again, hopefully will be given another chance next week.

Dunno about that, Leon kicked 3 against Carlton and 4 against Richmond.

Medhurst was no good tonight, simple as that. Clock's ticking now. Wouldn't be in my best 25 personally, got handed an absolute gift tonight with the 'forced' changes but he hardly gave a whimper in a side that won by 100 points.

Yeah i might've got carried away with saying last couple but Medders definitely had a better game than Davis against the Catters, still nowhere near enough whats required though. He hasn't played senior football for yonks so i think its only fair he's given another go next week.

If Davis is fit, there is no reason why Medhurst should retain his spot.

If all things are equal which they are (with Medhurst's shite game when he had the opportunity to cement himself from some 60+ inside 50's) I prefer a player that is a proper crumbing goalsneak, over yet another lead up forward. We have those in abundance. Leon's ability with his pace and crumbing and ability to kick goals from nothing is something very few of our other players have even if he has been crap for much of the season.

The 2008 version of Medhurst is well and truly dead.

Is not in our best 25 and would really need to depend on some injuries to play any part in September.

Would still give him 1 more run next week but if he stinks it up again then stick a fork in him for the year.

Not for one minute do I think there is a chance Medders will be dropped, he didn't play as bad as many suggest and based on VFL form and potential he is ahead of Lockyer. He'll at worst be given a second chance to f#%k shit up.

Can we have more inspirational posters of Medhurst f*$king shit up for the lead up to the game against the Crows?

I personally thought that both Medders and especially Lockyer were pretty poor against the bombers considering how we totally crushed them.

Medders looks likely to get a second chance so he better make the most of it!

Surprised and disappointed at this decision. They must have high hopes for Anthony for finals but I don't see why.
Not sure why they played Medhurst at all if they are just going to drop him the week before - but then they probably saw his game last week like 1/2 the posters on this thread, whereas I thought he was a solid contributor, played about as well as could be expected first game back and needed at least 2 in a row.
Worst thing possible for Medders is sitting out both levels as an emergency this week, so probably his season is trashed now.

Just seems like they are stuffing around with selection this week. The Anthony experiment I expect to fail (not saying he is finished, just maybe next season for him). Especially replacing Dawes at ff?? (The SAck was a must-in however.)

Guess we'll have to try to win it (the flag) without Medhurst, and hope Leon comes good. IF we lose the GF or prelim by a narrow margin, the first thing I'll be thinking of is this decision - esp if Leon goes missing.

Hoping to see the Twos on Saturday and the thing that will hold most interest will be the body language of Medhurst.

Also Leon's will also be fascinating, and to a lesser extent Fraser and Wood.

Will Medders be going flat chat, or will he think he's done and dusted for this year. It seems he's done.

Re the bolded bit...gee who'd be a selector. We have at least 25-26 players who are clearly good enough to be included in the team.

Three or four will miss.

Each will have had the potential to turn the game. Should we lose, it will be so tempting in the hurt and pain to recriminate.
Why didn't we have:

Leon's razzle dazzle and forward pressure that served us so well..
Sidebottom's poise,
Blair's courage and persistence,
JA's versatility to cover back and forward and his straight kicking
Lockyer's cool head,
Medders' ability to win a game in ten minutes and so on...

Note..haven't mentioned Wood or Fraser or even McCarthy.

Disappointing, but it's clearly not the right year to have a form slump. Medhurst is a much better player than he's shown this year, but thems the breaks in a side this even.

True dat. I'm hoping for another strong pre-season by him, and then forcing his way into the side if Davis continues to falter. We all know how amazing he can be, and at his best he is a top 10 player at the Club, just chose the wrong season to have a slump.

Problem is he probly won't be in the 2's since he's an emergency.

Of your list of players, Medders and maybe Leon are the only ones who I would wonder if they would have made the difference in a tight final.
But both need to show some form but Medders hasn't been given a fair chance. Only hope now is if he is picked for the Hawks game - which would probably require Jack to fail this week - or of course a late withdrawal for this Crows game. Even if Jack does well it doesn't mean too much against a depleted crows.

It looked to me like he was playing too hard to keep his spot, rather than do the team thing. eg, that goal from Jolly(?) he tried to intercept, and pushed into the post. He should have just allowed it to go through, but it looked like he was trying to involve himself on the stats sheet.

Maybe they should have guaranteed him a couple of games to prove himself to take the pressure off a little. May have seen a better game from him last week as a result.

If you've ever played footy, you may have noticed how hard it is sometimes to know if a ball is going through for a goal - I have made that mistake many times or the opposite one of letting one go through thinking it is going to be a goal. I don't think you can read anytyhing into that incident at all.
Overall I thought he actually was just working hard as part of the game plan and looked (as I said somehwere else) more part of the team than Medders trying to achieve. Even in that quiet game he contributed well, had quite a few pivotal score involvements and at least one direct assist.

He's a very good link-up half forward (passing into F50) when in form. I suppose Beams is excelling in that role right now but can't see why you can't have two doing that since they can both excel at other roles if required.

If you could give us all a player review if you end up making it that would be awesomeness :D

I still believe in him, hopefully he goes back to the VFL and plays well enough to keep his name in the mix. If he doesn't come back into the side I reckon he will use this season as motivation and get himself as fit as a fiddle for a recall next year. :thumbsu:
