Income is income, irrespective of what it goes towards. If you use $1m of income to pay off debt, then it doesn't stop being classed as income.

Put simply, your profit included the handout, and would have been $1m less without it.

If we didn't receive that $1m from the AFL, then we simply wouldn't have put X amount of dollars towards the debt.

We also would've budgeted differently. This includes spending less on the football department, and as a last resort, paying less than 100% of the salary cap.

What happened to the $1,000,000+ profit that you were happily sprouting all year? Why did it turn into $90,000 instead?

Let's analyse the Dees situation a little closer.

They are coming off a shocking 2007. Melbourne and Carlton have had the most Priority Picks in the AFL(is it 4 or 5?). You have the lowest membership base in Victoria by a long way. Last year you sold 1 game to Brisbane and 1 game to Darwin, (correct me if I'm wrong). You also collected $1.5million from the CBF, (correct me if I'm wrong). You also had a huge blockbuster game on Queen's Birthday against Collingwood.

I would like to ask all Dees, or is that MelbourneFC supporters a few questions. What is going to happen when you lose the CBF? What is going to happen when you no longer can sell games interstate? What is going to happen when the AFL decide to take away the Queen's Birthday blockbuster.

I'll hazard a guess. MelbourneFC will be posting $3million losses every year.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

We've only had 2 picks you w***er. I think if you like back over the last 8 or so years Carlton would have the most followed by st. kilda

I stopped reading after this

Hello McFly? Where did Riewoldt, Kosi, Ball, Goddard et al. come from?

Their has been handed to them via deplorable results from 2000-2002

Thank you!!!!!

WTF NECKLESS! 4 or 5 priority picks? Bahha weve had 2 you scum! How man have your rabble had? Oh and are you jealous we actually posted a PROFIT! Unlike your club, please **** off this board neckless.

Again thank you.

DO some research nexus before you mouth off your club isnt exactly world beaters, it must be hard to fit your one and only premiership cup in your cabinet.

1997 Melbourne finished last and used pick 1 with Travis Johnstone was not a priority pick, but a pick for finishing last.

2003 Melbourne finished 14th. We recieved pick 3 as a priority.

Really?

From the Herald Sun
Other Victorian clubs doing well on the membership front include Hawthorn and Geelong, both of which are approaching 24,000, Richmond with more than 23,000, North Melbourne with 20,000 plus and St Kilda which recently passed 21,000.

Collingwood has signed around 28,000 members. Melbourne is trailing the competition with around 15,000 members.

Well done GAMBLER, that's exactly my point.:cool::cool:

And I'll say it again....

The Saints have had 2 priority picks...
Rievoldt and Ball. That's it.

The Saints have never received the CBF.

By the way, why would the AFL bother giving Melbourne Friday Night games. If they did that the TV rights would deflate from $775million for 5 years to about half that.

Noone wants to watch Melbourne on TV except Melbourne supporters and the opposition supporters.

I couldn't think of anything more boring than spending Friday nights watching the dees.

It's actually 17,800 on the website...which is a week behind anyway. So more likely to be 18 or 19K before NAB cup has even started.

But don't let that get in the way of a good news story

Neckless, what is your obsession with getting rid of VIC teams?

The Saints have never received the CBF.

The Aints receive $600,000 every year of ASD funding.

The Aints were the only club to post a LOSS last year.

Worry about your own club you pathetic troll, namely how they will be planning on turning a profit this year, when they're increasing spending in the football department - wheres all the new revenue going to come from?

You make me laugh, you still refusing to buy an Aints membership because your love child Grant Thomas who is still SUEING your club, got sacked? :p

Correct me if Im wrong, but isnt this more than what we had the same time last year? Going by previous seasons, we are headed for 30k+ easily.
I havent paid for my membership yet, and alot dont until the season starts. Atleast wait until the final figures are released before slagging off our great club.
And TBH a saints supporter shouldnt really be slagging off ANY club, as the saints have a history of failure.

Wow, il put the obvious contradiction here down to the fact that your a fremantle supporter.
Put simply, if income is income then we will include the $1mil as income....ipso facto...a contributor to profit.
If your gonna peddle your bulltish about what melbourne would be without the grant then maybe you should take into account the extra money we will have each year when we wipe off the rest of the debt. So we will be $1mil shorter in income less the grant, but $1mil less on costs due to debt.

Put simply....feel free to respond when you come up with a less condradictory/stupid point of view.

90% of what you just said makes absolutely no sense. Handouts are income. Lose the handouts, you get less income. Pretty bloody simple concept.
If you eliminate debt, then your expenses are going to be slightly less, but only the interest component is an expense. So if you eliminate $1m in debt, that saves you about $80-90k in expenses a year, depending on your interest rate.
You really think your entire debt is counted as expense every year?

Just correcting the number. :p

I think it is best to see how the Dees go this year before casting stones, a fair number of clubs get strong numbers early because reserved seating tickets have to be in by November, probably not a mad rush to get reserved seating on the MCG for the small/medium supporter base clubs.

The CBF is not an income. It's actually theft. Theft from the other 13 clubs who bust their ar$e to stand on their own 2 feet.

Come to think of it, the 13 other clubs that don't receive the CBF should all go on a spending spree this year, posy a loss, and then claim the CBF money to balance the books.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

As long as they receive unbalanced scheduling, like hte Dees, Dogs and roos do - they will be entitled to it.

By the way, your mob don't have to "try" to post a loss. you were the only club in the AFL that posted a loss last year. That's right, the Dogs, Dees and roos all made more money than St Kilda did last year, and have all had less priority picks than St Kilda.

Your mob are a charity case.

The Dees will always be safe cause they have the name/brand 'Melbourne'

Like it or lump it, the Dees (believe it or not) are one of the most valuable victorian and AFL licencses and despite their financial and on-field struggles, they'll always still be round, unlike Foot-A-scray :)

Good call i have said this for years.

Also another reason why we do recieve the CBF is because the AFL don't not let us use our ground which is the MCG. We cant train on their, intersatate sides train their more often than us.

I recently saw West Coast post a $6 million dollar profit good on them. $3 million of their proft was made from ground rental. Imagine what kind of force (fincially) melbourne would be if where able to use OUR ground and charge rental.

Say where do they herd fool's like NeXus_Helen ?
I used to think North supporters were delusional until I met Melbourne supporters. At least North have a fight back plan and they have even stated that they don't want the CBF anymore.

Gardner and Melbourne have stated that they should get the CBF for ever.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Nexus, I have just found a die-hard University supporter that you have a right to harangue in light of the Saint's superior record. She just turned 111.

Biffinator.
